We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Ahmed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
This is one of my favorite questions. I am obsessed with art, music, photography. Anything that can bring light and life just fills my soul with so much joy. There is something special that happens when you are able to create something that can capture a moment in time. In my case, a photograph. Photography allows you to be able to take these precious moments, and make them life long memories. Memories that you can pull out when you are sad, or happy. To use to teach or educate. Much like music, or art. They are moments in time that you get to feel again, and again. It’s one of the most beautiful things. Why wouldn’t you want to be apart of something so significant?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
All the people I have the opportunity to meet keep me busy. My brand is people, my story is people, my purpose is people. Photography allows me to connect with people from all over. I get to learn their story, and add a piece of myself to it. Everyone has a story, and I get to help tell it. And even if they don’t know it, they’ve helped tell parts of my story as well. I’ve learned that it’s OK to keep evolving, I don’t have to be the same as everyone else. Comparison is a thief, it stills your joy and passion. The world needs who you were made to be, rise up sis!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
You should definitely start by going to the Beach! You can’t come to the East Coast and not have some Vitamin Sea. Followed by lunch on the Marshwalk, sitting on the deck watching the inlet. Can’t forget some ice cream at Twisters later on! Market Commons is also so nice to walk around, do some shopping. Then maybe stop off at Travinia’s for some martinis and pasta!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
It is so incredibly hard to pick just one person for this. I am a firm believer that it ALWAYS takes a village. My story is no different from that belief. One person who can take most of the credit though is, my mom. She is the reason I became so passionate to begin with. She herself is super passionate in the arts. There wasn’t a day that went by that we weren’t listening to amazing Broadway shows and soundtracks, dancing, painting, having the camera shoved in our face to document the day. Some of those things used to drive us crazy, when in actuality they were showing us to find the beauty in all things. They really helped shaped my love for the arts, and really introduced me to my love for photography.
