We had the good fortune of connecting with Whitney Taylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Whitney, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
Many people say that you should start a need based business over a business that is passion driven as it will be more successful. But for me I believe that If you are passionate about the business, that will take you way further than a business that may be in high demand but your heart is not into it. When you are passionate about a business you are not driven by the money, you truly love what you do and will continue pushing no matter what.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is that I come from a makeup artistry background. I have first hand knowledge and experience as to what the consumers want. This is rare especially in today’s time where not many people on the business side of beauty have that core foundation of the industry.

I am most excited about the fact that I have finally accomplished something that I have wanted to do my entire life. Ever since I was a young child I knew that I wanted to create and own my own beauty brand. But getting here was not an easy task. For me it was very important to fully understand everything about the field, both on the front end and back end. So I went through a lot of training and taking on numerous beauty jobs at some of the largest brands in the world so I could learn. I learned everything from the different types of consumers that each brand targeted and why, all the way down to how certain products are made and the ingredients that make them functions the way they do. In addition to my beauty jobs,I found it very important to continue my schooling so I took many courses on business, entrepreneurship, and marketing. All of these things combined has helped me get to where I am today.

Some of the challenges that I have had to overcome were dealing with labs that didn’t always have your best interest at heart. Being in business for the number of years that I have has really taught me how to vet through people and make the best decision for my company.

The biggest lesson that I learned was patience. Anybody who knows me knows that when I want something I want it right then and there. But that’s not how this industry works. It takes months of trial and error. Even when you think your final product is ready, test again. Because when something can go wrong, it will. So I learned to focus on the best product rather than just putting anything out due to me rushing the process.

I want the world to know the love and passion that I put behind my brand. W Cosmetics was not just created for beauty, we are a purpose driven brand. We sell our products through our story and the basis of any good story is being able to answer the 5 W’s. That is how we developed of name (outside of my name being Whitney of course). Every product name is intentional and has a story behind it.

I am very close and in touch with my customers. They are truly like my family, and that is what I want my customers to feel like when they shop with W Cosmetics…. family.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So I am a big foodie so I will definitely be taking them to all of the best restaurants! One of my favorites is Positano Coast which has some amazing Italian food. Then they would have to try the Philadelphia classic… THE CHEESESTEAK! You cannot come to the city and not get one. Now if you want to live it up you for sure have to go to a sports game. We have some of the most excited sports fans you will ever encounter, so an Eagles or Sixers game will make your entire weekend!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My family have been a major part of the W Cosmetics story. Having them by my side has been a driving force as to why I never gave up. Even during those times that I felt like quitting, they always reminded me of how strong I am and why W Cosmetics is so important to me. They are my biggest supporters! From my mom allowing me to place my products in her business, to my dad plugging my business everywhere he goes, to my sister promoting W Cosmetics on social media every chance she gets. They are my foundation and deserve all the recognition.
