We had the good fortune of connecting with William Reich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi William, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursue an artistic career because my first major I was going through in college was actually chemistry. It was not until my advisor told me I should change majors because I was struggling with biology that it was a mandatory class. My advisor switched and I got me thinking about going into an art career instead, because I enjoyed taking photos and creating graphics since I was in high school and smaller. I decided to change from chemistry to graphic design and I never look back now. I do not regret my decision because doing something I find fun and exciting feels like I am never actually doing work and one day I can be full time with my art career.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from the others I would say the angles which helps the unique eye I mainly because when I took photography classes in college my professors told me I have anything unique way I’m taking photos ability to capture a new perspective. I am most proud of completing photography or graphics that are all a bit challenging as overall makes me critical thing of how to complete this work. How I got here professionally was not easy as started as an idea to do photography, during a convention the overall combine my two favorite things which was geeky things and photography. That first time that went to the convention and it ended I enjoyed it so much and started an Instagram page Dapper.Arts for my photography as well as my graphics back in January of this year which is a now grown to close to 500 followers on Instagram. It’s a difficult road to travel as I was unemployed for half a year until recently it was hard to support myself do photography full-time which now I found a full-time job to support photography as a part-time job until I can continue to grow for the part-time job to be a full-time job to support myself. Your hardest part is getting people to notice you and book your sessions I got to start small doing photography for free until you get enough of a follower based I will reach out to contact you for sessions. I think the hardest lesson is just continue to follow your dream in though that dream might be difficult to get to overall keep pushing forward and if you love it enough do it until you can make it your full-time job. I want the world to know about me, my brand or story is to find a job that you like so you actually never had to work a day in your life for me that’s photography and creating graphics. I want my full-time job to be photography and graphics, and I’m pushing very hard every day and right now to achieve the goal.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friend would have visited me from out of town or the state, I would go take them to Ft. Lauderdale beach to chill and eat at Margaritaville, take them to Florida Panthers hockey game in the evening. The two places I would go without a doubt.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my grandpa for getting me into photography when I was small. I took photos a lot when I was in little when we went around the park. My parents for supporting me and constantly trying to help me to find a graphic design or photography job and still doing so today. The last one is the cosplay community I can’t narrow it down to one person but everyone in that community photographers and cosplayers continue to support everyone and give me feedback about my photos that I create.
