We had the good fortune of connecting with XCLEOX and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi XCLEOX, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the concept of my business through putting together all of my favorite hobbies under one umbrella. Considering i’ve been an active DJ for 17 years and an Event Curator for 9 years , I gained experience on how to run a business. Music was always number one for me since I was a kid, I started collecting records at the age 16 , DJing at the age 20 and a Photographer at 17. I was always a good cook but never looked at it as a business. As time went on , I started to take cooking seriously and went to school for Culinary Arts and along with collecting records again. I couldn’t bare to not part from any of the art forms that I enjoy so much, that I had no other choice but merge them together. On top of that, I have a love for curating events, scouting out new talent and supporting the youth. Id use the space for events for musicians and artists alike , as I believe there needs to be more leaders and supporters for a healthy youth culture.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
It took hard work and dedication to all of my art forms to realize that they all can belong together as one. Im excited that I’ve come to an understanding of what it is that I’m truly meant to do and that nothing that I love can be separated . Culinary Arts was always on the back burner for me as Music and Photography always played a key roll in my life. Once I was able to have a sense of solitude , rather than jumping from DJ Gigs, Events and Gallery shows I’ve curated , Booking other Artists and such . I was able to rearrange the order of what truly works best for me as a multi artist. Health has always been huge for me , as I’ve been back and forth with Vegan and Vegetarianism since I was 17 years old . I give credit to the Hardcore Straightedge scene which was a great influence on me in my Youth that never left me. Sobriety , Animal Rights, Health , creating Art spaces and DIY ( Do It Yourself) culture shaped where I am today. I went to lots of Punk Shows growing up in the Midwest and watched my peers book and support bands from all over the world. As a DJ I eventually started doing bookings in my own fashion, supporting up and coming Artists and Musicians in the underground scene in San Francisco, New York , Oakland , Los Angeles. After my trials and tribulations I started to take cooking seriously and decided Vegetarian Pizza along with other recipes and health foods would be my base for my business. My love for Music and Records will be apart of my business as id like to keep Vinyl culture alive as I believe its one of the purest forms of listening to music on top if live events . As long as I have wall space , it will be utilized by Artists, as it is highly important for me to support young, up and coming , established artists. I understand that youth have many unhealthy influences that flood them on the daily and Id like to be a positive influence for them and offer them a safe space to express themselves amongst their peers without the cloudiness and distractions that could prevent them from being their best selves.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
