We had the good fortune of connecting with Yanelis Estevez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yanelis, why did you pursue a creative career?
For love! From a very young age I was involved with dance. I always enjoy and love dancing, being able to express myself through movement. Fortunately I was able to study it professionally, developing my love and my passion to the point of not being able to separate myself from it. With a lot of effort and perseverance I have been able to carry out the profession that I have always loved. After 28 years of career as a dancer and as a teacher I have been able to enjoy it, not just like the profession that gave me a degree , but as part of my life doing what I love the most!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Ballet on Stage was created to develop the love and passion for dance in general at an early age in children. We are characterized by a personalized work with our students and institutions. It’s been a long way, full of sacrifices and challenges. To overcome it we have to return to what prompted us, love, and to be open to change, adapt and serve the community with what we do best, dance. Ballet on Stage is my “American Dream”, with love and perseverance I have been able to continue realizing my dream.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Definitely outdoor places! Beaches, swamps, parks.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout out to the parents who trust in our program, allowing us to be part of their daughter’s first artistic approach, to the institutions that open their doors for us, and to my family for all their support. Our company wouldn’t have succeeded without them!
