We had the good fortune of connecting with Yasmin Abreu Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yasmin, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I feel that when people mention real estate agents, they think its all glamour. They think its showing up to a listing, nicely dressed to show a beautiful property to a client that already has the offer in their heads and then we show up a month later to collect a check. Its not all fun and games. Theres a lot of emotions: fear of rejection, sweat, tears, anxiety, anger, frustration and of course theres also happiness, gratitude, excitement and hope. This profession is truly a roller coaster of emotions.
People don’t see that sometimes we have worked with clients for months and they end up closing a deal with another agent, bringing on a feeling of rejection. We drive hours all day to show properties and none to the likings of our clients. We work 24/7, our phone does not stop even on the weekends. We receive calls at all hours of the day regardless of our location. We work while we are on vacation, (thats usually when deals come in, lol). We fight for our clients to get the best offer or for our offer to be accepted. We hustle back and forth with other agents all day just to report once to our clients, hopefully with the best news. We do this because we are working the deal for them. We deal with inspections, appraisals, permitting, insurance agents, mortgage brokers, title companies and agents despite of the outcome because we are always working the deal.. We try our hardest to make our clients trust us, to let them know we have their backs and we will do what it takes to make it happen.
Despite it all. I love what I do and I wouldn’t have it any other way! The satisfaction of having someone’s trust in you gives you the drive to work it everyday no matter what.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Prior to being a real estate agent I was a personal trainer. I loved my career, my clients and also the flexibility of my work hours. I became a bodybuilder with a lot of hard work, dedication and discipline. These were 3 traits you must have to succeed in this profession. I took it on with lots of love and became very successful as a trainer.
During Covid I realized I wanted to do something more. I already had my license so I decided to jump into real estate head first. I decided to take the risk and quit personal training one day and started real estate the very next. I knew my work ethics would help me transition into my new profession easily. I had the discipline, I had the dedication and i definitely knew what hard work was. There was no stopping me. I knew I could apply all the characteristics that I possessed into being a great Real Estate Agent. I had no doubt.
I am a people person, I love meeting new people, I love helping my clients achieve their goals. I’m a strategist in both professions and my ultimate goal is to win.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a Realtor we know the best areas. There is so much to see and do in Miami. We are the melting pot of the world. We have something here for everyone of every culture.
First we must visit the beautiful beaches and waters of Miami Beach, so much to see and take in. Breathing in the salt air, watching the boats pass by and seeing the beautiful people is a must. Secondly, its in my nature to shop so we must stop in the best shopping centers. We have Aventura Mall, Bal Harbour Shops, Brickell City Center, you cant go wrong in any of these. They are the mecca of shopping.
Third we have food! I cant really be too specific because there is so much variety here in Miami, so many hot sizzling spots to try, I don’t want to be biased. But we have every imaginable cuisine your heart could beat for and your stomach would crave. We have mediterranean, cuban, mexican, indian, italian, japanese. french, asian infused ,the list goes on! I think it depends on what you are feeling that day. Maybe I’ll be a little biased and take you to a cuban restaurant!
Nextwe have culture and great museums like Vizcaya , The Perez Museum, the Adrienne Arsht Center and we have the Wynwood Walls, a little bit for everyone!
Lastly we have to take a trip to the keys! lets get us a frozen Piña Colada at Gilbert’s and bring us home some key lime pie and fish dip from The Fish House
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think my children are the highlight and the shout out of my story! They are my rock, my motivation and as they say they are my WHY! As a single mom I think I try my hardest to give and provide the best that I can for them daily. They are the reason I get up in the morning, they are the reason I try to be a better person, they are the reason I work as hard as I do.. I want them to be proud of me and know that there is no obstacle in this world that can impede them from reaching their ultimate goal. My oldest, Carlos is always pushing me to be greater and to try to achieve other goals in business. Always asking why don’t you do this, why don’t you try that, “you can do it Momma” and if that is not motivation enough I don’t know what is.
Mia and Chris are also my greatest supporters. Always understanding that work sometimes comes first because I need to get the job done. They never put their needs before any of my work related functions.
They deserve all the credit and recognition for being my biggest drive in life.
