We had the good fortune of connecting with Yolanda Grier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yolanda, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When the pandemic forced businesses to either shut down, or have their employees work remotely, I had a thought to start a lounge wear business that provide versatile pieces that can be worn whether you are lounging at home, attending a zoom meeting for work, or running errands. Covid definitely was the catalyst when it became frustrating to change from comfy pajamas to clothes appropriate for outside wear just to check the mail, or run a quick errand. Not to mention, having to return home to change AGAIN into something more comfortable to lounge in. The idea of having “grab n go” pieces was ideal as well.

So, without having any background on how to start a business and coupled with fear, I decided to take the idea to God in prayer and ask for guidance and a clear vision. Not only did God provide an answer, but He provided the business plan, the financial means and the knowledge required for me to move forward as an entrepreneur. Walking in obedience, I followed God’s vision and produced Comfy Chic Loungewear LLC.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Comfy Chic Loungewear LLC is an online boutique that offers comfortable (comfy) and stylish (chic) pieces that are versatile no matter if you’re relaxing at home or need to grab n go. We pride ourselves with ensuring our pieces are great in quality at an attainable price.

I am most proud of the fact that when God blessed me with this vision, I was going through a nasty divorce during a pandemic and was furloughed from work. I am proof that as long as you are obedient to God’s word, pray, fast, stay humble and give to others even when you don’t have it to give He will sustain you! With the numerous obstacles that were in my view, God gave me the strength I needed to move forward. Even on the days I felt as if this venture was not going to happen, He carried me through.

Although it was challenging at times, I stayed on course. Remained humble. Anchored myself in prayer and developed the patience of JOB (only the Christian readers know that story)! Lol. Through it all I won’t complain because the lessons I learned built character. It would be selfish of me to complain.

I would like the world to know that no matter what you are going through, no matter what people perceive you to be, no matter what your finances may look like, and no matter who tells you NO! God will ALWAYS say YES!!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Unfortunately, I don’t hang out much locally. I do have a love for travel. With the pandemic still wreaking havoc, I would plan a domestic trip versus international. So, a couple of days we will hang out anywhere that provides a good wine and live music. I am a sucker for water views. Any restaurant with a great view and I am there! The remainder of the visit will be in a different state.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It is truly humbling to see children you birthed stand by your side ten toes down and encourage you to be a better version of yourself. Children that fights for you and protect you as if they are the Colonel in your army. My daughter, Portia Troutman, is that person for me. Along side her youngest brother, Reggie Troutman Jr., they gave me the push and backing I needed to keep this train going. I thank God for them and I am extremely proud, blessed and grateful to be their mom.
