We had the good fortune of connecting with Yvanne Joseph and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yvanne, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I felt that there was an urgent and compelling need for the establishment of a mental health practice that specifically caters to the needs of minorities. As our society becomes more aware of the diverse challenges faced by different communities, it is evident that there is a significant gap in mental health services that are tailored to the unique experiences of minorities, people that look like me. Minorities often encounter mental health practitioners who may not fully understand the cultural nuances, values, and traditions that shape their experiences. Establishing a practice that prioritizes cultural competence is essential to creating a safe and supportive therapeutic environment, hence out motto, “therapy for you by people who get you”.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Getting where I am today came with its fair share of obstacles , but I believe that faith and believing myself carried me through. Starting Selenite Therapy was not just a professional milestone; it’s a testament to resilience, self-discovery, and the unwavering belief in the transformative power of therapeutic support. The path to this moment has been marked by challenges, doubts, and moments of introspection. Starting Selenite therapy demanded a leap of faith, one that required me to confront personal and professional obstacles head-on. Reflecting on this journey, I am reminded of the profound impact that overcoming challenges can have on personal growth and professional development. In the face of uncertainty, I found strength in the stories of those who have navigated similar challenges and emerged stronger on the other side. Each obstacle became an opportunity for learning, adapting, and refining my vision for the kind of therapeutic space I wanted to create. Establishing Selenite Therapy is a dream realized, but it is also a commitment to providing a safe space for those seeking support and growth. The challenges encountered along the way have instilled in me a deep sense of empathy and understanding, reinforcing the belief that everyone deserves a safe space to explore their emotions, heal, and flourish.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take the to Wynnwood of course , its filled with so much diversity, they can have a little of everything there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Aww man there are so many people I can shout out that has been such an inspiration to me, but if I had to choose one person it would be my son . My son, Caleb, has been a beacon of resilience and strength throughout my journey. From being there and cheering me on while I was overcoming personal challenges to embracing growth and self-discovery. The unique perspective gained through my son’s experiences has played a pivotal role in shaping the ethos of Selenite Therapy. We are committed to fostering a space that embraces diversity, values individual strengths, and recognizes the potential for growth in every individual, just as my son has exemplified.
