We had the good fortune of connecting with Zak Kunish and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Zak, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
Everyone always taught me to have a business plan. A well written, multi page document that will describe every single last detail of the business, from inception to marketing to P&L statements and projections. I completely disagree with all of this. Entrepreneurs are born with natural instincts to organically grow a company. They see what others do not. They have the will power and thought process to build a thriving company. In most cases, it could take longer to “plan” your company than it does to roll up your sleeves and start it. I wrote one business plan in my life, and that was in college for an assignment. I don’t plan on writing another one ever again. I see the vision for my companies and put good thought to work without wasting time.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Creating a company is one of the hardest things to do. It’s late nights, early mornings, weekends and plenty (plenty!) of sleepless nights. It takes strong determination, sheer will power and grit to build a company from an idea to real profits. Very few have experienced the honor of this process. The ones that do see it through do not take it for granted. I wake up every morning feeling like my entire business that I’ve built for 20 years could come to an abrupt end. I work harder on building more ideas, more efficiency and better customer service. This mentality takes focus…laser focus. I do not take anything for granted…ever.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
“It takes a village” is 100% true. No one person can create a thriving, successful business all on their own. I credit my parents for giving me the opportunity, my family for the encouragement, my colleagues for their advice and my clients for their honesty. All of these factors combined create a solid footing to work from.
