We had the good fortune of connecting with Monika Marianna Kiss and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monika Marianna, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I know it’s cliche but I didn’t choose art. Art called out to me to be chosen from early childhood. I was a child actress, and I always was also painting from early childhood. I had exhibitions also when I was a child. I was also studying music on a high level. I finished an opera school from the earliest age allowed at age 17. After all that I was a oriental dance teacher for 14 years where I was practicing the art of movement. However in all those years I never completely abandoned painting. Now I reunited and solely dedicated to my craft and passion for fine art. My life has always been possible by art and I would say we choose each other.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
They say my artwork is a unique, I am recognizable, and I’m not copying anybody. I imbed a lot of message inspired from my life experience in my work. I’ve been fortunate enough to learn and experience a lot of different religions and travel many countries. I emphasize many elements from a variety of different religions I have learned during my life. I say to people that I am not an artist for only one but the opposite. Many if not all will see and be moved by different meanings and messages in my work that only their eyes will reveal to them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were to visit for a week I would want to take her to many many places, but I’ll try to narrow it down my absolute favorites. Starting with food. I would not let her leave without dining with me at the famous Havana, 1957 on South Beach in Miami. I think it’s one of the best one of the best culinary experiences I’ve had in a long time. To hang out, I was simply take her down to one of many beaches available for everybody. I am from eastern Europe, so we do not have the luxury of always enjoying the warm waters, the sunshine and warmth. I am sure my friend would appreciate that. Finally, to show her some fun I would take her with me to Wynnewood’s in Miami to be around genuine, vibrant and colorful people of many ways and walks of life. I am sure this will give a well-rounded and fulfilling Miami experience from my point of you.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I must give credit to my mentors. I am truly grateful for Thomas Monahan. A great man, expert art dealer and collector. Through the years of working with him I traveled all over the world, and I was fortunate enough to meet with many world famous artists who give me love and confidence about my artwork. My work wouldn’t have been possible without my other guardian, István Sági. On my journey in the art world he propelled me to push my artistic boundaries and most importantly to create the art I wanted to make. Both of their knowledge about art, their never ending support and love helped me to became who I am and without who I am now my work wouldn’t be the same.
