We had the good fortune of connecting with Natalie Marino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natalie, what matters most to you?
Empathy is a principle that matters to me because it allows me to understand and relate to the feelings and experiences of others. It involves putting ourselves in someone else’s shoes, imagining how they might be feeling, and responding with kindness and understanding. When we practice empathy, we are better able to connect with others, build meaningful relationships, and foster a sense of community.

Empathy is particularly important in today’s complex and interconnected world, where people from diverse backgrounds and experiences come into contact with one another on a regular basis. By practicing empathy, we can better understand and appreciate the perspectives and experiences of those who are different from us, and work together to create a more inclusive and compassionate society.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the Founder and CEO of The Latina Techie, a community to serve fellow Latina sisters in finding their voice in STEM, responsible for bridging efficiency gaps while utilizing technology to help create efficiencies and automation in your business practices. I have earned over a decade of experience working with the intricacies of Professional Employer Organizations (PEO). I began her career in Benefits, which led me to the STEM world by way of Human Resource Information Systems, where I found my true passion. I currently serve as Senior Product Owner with ADP in the Global Product and Technology Division of the business. The Latina Techie is rooted in the commitment to celebrating collaboration over competition. Community is about you, about me, about us, and for that reason, we choose to show up every day with the purpose to serve.

The Latina Techie is rooted in representation, because showing up in spaces where we are seen, heard and empowered matters. Based on statistics for Latina’s in STEM it is vital that we continue to advocate and provide the tools and resources that can bring visibility, awareness and will equip other fellow Latina’s to create their own identity in the STEM industry. At the core of who I am is also the need for human connection and simply supporting other Latina’s and providing access to my community and network of individuals who can bridge the opportunities as you claim a seat at the table.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Day 1: I would take my friend to the Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District, where we can enjoy live music, art exhibits, and theater performances while strolling along the beautiful New River.

Day 2: If we wanted to unwind, we can take a yoga class at the nearby Yoga Joint, which offers hot yoga and vinyasa flow classes.

Day 3: Fort Lauderdale Beach is a must-see attraction in the area, so I would definitely take my friend there to spend the day sunbathing, swimming, or trying out some water activities like jet-skiing or paddleboarding.

Day 4: For a fun night out, we can head to the Funky Buddha Brewery, which offers a variety of craft beers and a laid-back atmosphere.

Day 5: Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is a beautiful natural park that has hiking trails, picnic areas, and scenic waterways, so I would definitely take my friend there. We can rent bikes or kayaks to explore the park’s natural beauty.

Day 6: For a day trip, I would take my friend to Palm Beach, where we can visit the Flagler Museum and take a tour of the historic Breakers Hotel. We can also enjoy some shopping and dining on Worth Avenue.

Day 7: To end our week-long adventure, I would take my friend on a catamaran sunset cruise, where we can enjoy beautiful views of the coastline while sipping on cocktails. Afterward, we can head to The Wilder, a trendy bar that offers handcrafted cocktails and live music.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I feel incredibly fortunate to have a sister like mine, who has been a constant source of support and inspiration in my life. She has helped me to break free from my self-doubt by reminding me of what I am capable of and by reframing my mindset to one of positivity and possibility. Her encouragement has been instrumental in helping me to pursue my dreams and aspirations. With her kindness and empathy, she has been a true confidante and a trusted advisor, always there to listen to my thoughts and offer guidance when I needed it the most. I cannot thank her enough for all that she has done to help me become the best version of myself, and I believe that she truly deserves recognition for her incredible contributions to my life.
