We had the good fortune of connecting with Nycole Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nycole, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind creating Upscale GlamStudio, was to express myself in a creative way, while providing an outlet for people who are looking to shop at a quality store that provides quality products. Since I was a child, I dreamed of having my own business and being a boss of my own. When Upscale GlamStudio came to mind, the keyword was UPSCALE. Upscale for me means to have a high end experience when shopping with a company online and in store.
As a full-time Makeup Artist, I knew it was only right for me to share not only my art with make up with the world, but also gives access to affluent customers who are looking for quality products that I have access to.
I am in the beauty industry. Beauty is what I sell, so I thought why not expand my vision to something more greater and help those that are interested in upgrading themselves to a more upscale appearance.
“When you look good, you feel good.” is what I live by.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As a make up artist, what sets me apart is my ability to incorporate my personality and style into my art. As a creative artist, you have to see in pictures you have to have a vision. Having a vision is how I am able to manifest beautiful things in my real world. With an eye for detail and a passion for style, I am true master of glam. With years of experience in the beauty industry, I have honed skills in makeup artistry, hair styling, and fashion trends to create stunning looks that leave a lasting impression.
From red-carpet events to high fashion photo shoots, and working on feature films, I learned I have a natural talent for bringing out the best in my clients. My keen sense of style and attention to detail ensure that every look is flawless, while my warm and friendly personality makes me a joy to work with.
How did you get to where you are today?
My success is the result of hard work, dedication, and persistence. I set high goals for myself and have worked tirelessly to achieve them. I am willing to go the extra mile and put in the extra effort to succeed. I have always been eager to learn and grow, both personally and professionally. I’ve invested time and resources in learning new skills and acquiring knowledge that helps me perform my job better. I love seeking feedback and looking for ways to improve. A key tool is having a positive attitude and mindset is crucial for success. I try to maintain a positive outlook, even in challenging situations. I focus on the things that I can control and try to find solutions to problems instead of dwelling on them.
Success is not a solo journey. I believe in collaboration and teamwork and have always been open to working with others to achieve common goals. Also, I’ve taken calculated risks throughout my career that have helped me grow and achieve success. I am not afraid to step out of my comfort zone and try new things. I believe that taking risks can open up new opportunities and lead to greater success.
Would you say it was easy?
I wouldn’t say it was easy but it did come natural to me. Along the way I learned having a purpose doesn’t mean that you’re limited to just that purpose. I’ve always believed you lock in on one vision and you let that open other doors for you in your life. There has never been a time when I thought that I shouldn’t be a make up artist or own my own company. I knew that this was what I wanted to do since a young adult. I used to draw and color I was very unique and creative, and as I got older, I started to explore make up. MAC COSMETICS was my first makeup brand that introduced me into the world of makeup. After years of experimenting and exploring make up, somehow I managed to fully be a part of the Makeup artistry industry. The makeup industry then opened the door for me to create my company upscaleglamstudio.com
What are some lessons you have learned?
Lessons I learned along the way is to believe in yourself believe in your vision trust yourself and know all things are possible if it’s for you and you put your mind to it. Be very selective of who you trust and who you allow in your personal space.
What do you want the world to know about you and your companies?
I want the world to know my brand is not just another shop created to make money off of people but to give them access to quality products and services to save them time from having to do the due diligence on their own, I want customers to continue to shop with me and book me knowing that I am happy to provide them with quality items, good customer service, a professional demeanor, and a well-rounded attitude. When customers shop with me and hire me I want them to feel and trust that they’re coming to me to get an Upscale experience.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend came to visit me here in Los Angeles. I would take them to really nice brunch restaurants where we can enjoy the sun and scenery and good food. Tour the staple parts of greater Los Angeles, like Melrose, the Grove, Soho house, Sunset Boulevard and of course West Hollywood oh, and if time permits I will take them to a few of my secret honeycomb hideout locations that are absolutely peaceful and decompressing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a lot of credit and recognition to myself for being bold, and having the courage to allow the vision in my mind to manifest into my reality and putting myself out there to the world running the risk of completely getting looked over or even better being looked at even more.
Where do you get your inspiration?
All of my inspiration has always come from within I’ve always had a vision and an imagination, so I think my greatest asset was and is unleashing my potential and greatness and hopefully, it inspire others that are like me and who have thoughts of creating something amazing to actually go for it and if it works wonderful and if it doesn’t come up with another idea until that idea works out for you, I also want people to know that being an entrepreneur is not something you have to do to be successful. If you have a job you love please don’t let the world make you think you’re less than because you don’t own a business. The key is to be confident in whatever you do.
