We had the good fortune of connecting with Oscar Bedoya, Owner and musical director of Mariachi Sol de Oro, a group that has quickly gained much attention with locals in Miami, FL and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Oscar, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
One of the most important lessons I have learned is to take my business seriously. You must believe in your business, stay focused, and dress the part in order for everyone else that comes in contact with you to also take you seriously.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

What sets us apart is the excellence in the quality of our presentations. We are a group that dedicates our time solely to this work, we depend on it as a main source of income.
This makes us more than a group, it makes us family and we run our company as such.

Everything that we love about this art, we then embody and transmit in every presentation and help people connect to music. I am very proud of the positive effect we cause in all of our presentations. It is very gratifying to hear from our clients who have had other mariachis at their parties mention they have never heard a sound or experienced anything like us.
30 years ago when I started this profession was not supported by any educational entity. So our knowledge has been acquired through videos of the great mariachi masters , traveling through different countries and having exchanged knowledge with different people from the same musical genre. It has been a difficult road to where we are today, but with practice and discipline we have managed to achieve goals and fulfill our dreams.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
It is an honor to represent Mexico through our music, and we wear the traje charro with pride and respect. Our instruments make our songs reach the depths of the heart while singing songs from our Mexico lindo y querido .Our goal is to make our clients feel as if they are in their home in Mexico, and those who are not Mexican, we transport them there, as if they were in Plaza Garibaldi or San Juan de Dios in Guadalajara Jalisco.

We support gender equality! We are a woman owned business, our Co-owner Cecilia Chaidez is Mexican-American and provides inspiration to the Latina community through her representation in an all male dominated industry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would invite them to a dinner at La Diosa Taqueria on Calle 8, good food , excellent ambiance, great service and ofcourse Mariachis. Plan a beach day in Key Largo and stay at the Amoray Resort. Next day I’d get Tickets for a Candlelight Concert. Spend another day exploring the everglades and finally get tickets for a Miami Heat game.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shoutout to the musicians in our band, they are the people responsible for making this group and our company a success. Their talent, dedication, passion and commitment to music is what makes this business thrive. Furthermore, Nelson Puente is a person that has been with me since the beginning, in the good and the bad times. A very special thank you to him and his family for the unconditional support.
