We had the good fortune of connecting with Pat Gutierrez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pat, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Argentina. My parents decided to immigrate to the United States when I was 7 years old. There weren’t any Latin Americans in northern New Jersey in the 1970s. As you might know, children learn languages much faster than adults. Within 4 months I was speaking English perfectly and at 9 years old found myself translating for my parents. As more Latin Americans started arriving, they would ask my parents to assist them as well. You could say I literally grew up doing my profession even before having formal training. This made me grow up being empathetic to the people who can could communicate their needs or feelings and also to be of service to the people trying to help the LEP (limited English Proficient person). This is my passion and my vocation and that is where my success lies. I could go on and on…
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a full service language assistance firm. We provide Interpreting and Translation services internationally in all languages. We have had the honor of interpreting for world leaders like Senator John Kerry, famous celebrities and large energy companies. What I am most proud of the service be provide by being a voice to the people who cannot communicate their needs and to be a bridge so that people can understand each other better and make this world a little better one conversation at a time.
I have had many business mentors my whole life and I have been smart enough to watch and learn from them. I was an Administrator for a national nursing agency in my twenties so I was very young when I started managing businesses.
I truly believe it is easy to do when you’re passionate and believe in your product or service.
I have always taught my children to do what they love and love what they do. As a matter of fact that is one of the pictures in my office. It never feels like work when you do what you love.
I have learned to put the personal aspect in every business encounter I have. Everyone wants to feel special and that is our magic. We make sure each client, LEP or Interpreter feel they are a special part of our business and that we value each and every one of them.
Our success also comes from being flexible to each client’s requirements and to be available for last minute needs which arise very often in this business.
our logo is WHEN EVERY WORD COUNTS and we truly believe that is our specialty
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Fort Lauderdale so as you know we have beautiful beaches, our weather is ideal for that. Also a day of boating and of course great restaurants on Las Olas Boulevard.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people along the way… First of all my parents who had the courage to leave their native country to give me a better future
I thank my family for having the love and patience you need in order to have a successful business
Also to all of the seasoned Interpreters who have been in many ways a mentor to me and now I pay it foward by being a mentor to new Interpreters
