The Coronavirus has given many us an opportunity to pause and think about life, our purpose, and even the right work life balance. What’s your perspective and has it changed over time?

As a mother, teacher and achieving and maintaining work-life balance is vital for my well-being. Over time, my work-life balance has certainly undergone changes and adaptions. As a mother, teacher and real estate agent, each role comes with its own set of demands and commitments. Initially, finding balance among these roles has been challenging as I navigated the demands of work and family life. My career has been in the staffing industry for over 17 years. I manage our Miami operations for contract and contract-to-hire roles in the administrative and accounting field for Fortune 500 company Robert Half. I also volunteer with The Latina Pro, a movement that helps the Latina community grow professionally and personally through the power of networking. Currently, I hold the position of Vice President. However, it was tapping into my personal experiences of growing up as a Puerto Rican in the United States that made me decide to write a children’s book on such an important topic as diversity and self-acceptance. I used to find myself really hung up on how best to achieve balance through discipline, and what I thought was consistency, and those things really do help. However what I have found most essential in establishing balance for myself is honesty. I have to be honest about where I am in life, what I need from myself, and what is most realistic and compassionate. As a Registered Dietitian, I am acutely aware of the importance of work life balance. However, work life balance seems to be this esoteric goal that has yet to be clearly defined. I think it means something different for each of us and can differ in each role and season of life. My definition has certainly changed as an entrepreneur. My work life balance has become so much healthier since I have started my own business in full force. It’s a strange phenomenon actually, because I’m actually busier than I’ve ever been. There are days where I wake up to my phone, ringing with alerts alarms, and phone calls and meetings to attend, virtually or over the phone. from that point on, it feels like it just doesn’t stop, until the moment comes where it does.
