We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Juliao and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been interested in skin care since I was very little. My mom took us to a dermatologist that made it a point to start Botox in my 20s. I started at 22 and started seeing that I was not aging as quickly as my friends.
Because I was always interested in nursing and then later became a nurse practitioner, I wanted to incorporate my love of medicine and my love for aesthetics… Cue Injectologie! I have been honing in on incorporating regenerative medicine into facial aesthetics, and found that anything that stimulates collagen is key to preventing aging… As well as sunblock lol.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Everyone says you should own a business! Well, let me tell you… It is not for everybody! You have to be ready for Hard-work, sacrifice, tears and endless nights!
Is it satisfying? Absolutely, I would not have it any other way.
Starting up a business requires a lot of initial investment. I did not have that therefore I dipped into many credit cards. I think I was $50,000 in debt the first year that I started in aesthetics. I was able to get rid of all of that debt the second year, which was the biggest personal feat.
Because there are so many things that you can offer in an aesthetics practice, you think that you have to offer every single filler, every brand of tox, have at least four lasers, and be a master of all! I feel that it is better to hone in on one and become an expert at that one thing before moving onto something else.
My brand is focused on a journey.
I call myself a journey injector, because not everything needs to be done at once! What might be an appropriate plan for one person, might not be appropriate for the next person. We are also in the industry of helping people with their insecurities.
When I first sit with a client, I ask what it is that bothers them the most, that is where we start. A lot of people like to point at nasolabial folds for example. That’s where I go into a mini anatomy lesson and explain to the client that volume loss is actually happening a lot higher which is causing pressure in that area. It is important to educate the client on the aging process so that we are better able to address it! Having patience is definitely a virtue, and I like to say I have a lot of it! That becomes very evident in my extensive consultations with clients, which is why most of them come back!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Miami! So, of course, the beach is probably one of my favorite spots, Southe Pointe to be exact! This is where I would start and end the vacation, and lunch would be a lobster roll from Joe’s Stone Crab, yummmm.
When I’m not busy with work and I go out, I like to go any where that we can dance, so sometimes we have to find the vibe of the night. If I had to pick, one of my favorite places is Ball and Chain, because you can dance salsa all night long. Favorite restaurants have to be Luca Osteria and Zits Sum in the Gables, or Uchi in Wynwood. But when it comes to late nights, find me at Taco Bell!
Miami is full of so many different hubs and cities, a week would not be enough time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There’s definitely a lot of people that have contributed to the success of my business. Because of everything, a new business requires, and asks of you, love and support is most important. I have had so much support from my family as well as my friends! My parents have always made my sister and I prioritize education above all because it is not something that you can take away from anybody. Mama, Papa, and Rachel, are my rocks. They let me practice new techniques on them, and we’re always willing to try out whatever new product or service I was incorporating into practice.
My boyfriend is always giving me new ideas on how to increase engagement with clients, and how to effectively invest in marketing, my bonus daughter Eva on the other hand, is over there to help me with the aesthetics of the practice.
I started at Esthetics by Halima, and eventually grew my own practice with the close support of my nurse practitioner, injector friends! We call each other, our coworkers, even though we are in different cities and locations. Sheryl, Mimi, Stephanie and Alessandra, you ladies are the best! Whether it’s learning new techniques, or improving the ones we already have!
