We had the good fortune of connecting with Rodney Fentress and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rodney, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
One of the greatest things about being self employed is the ability to blend business into life to a point where balance becomes less of a focus. I can do 90 percent of my work related activities from anywhere and at any time so there is opportunity to live and work in the same space. Work shouldn’t get in the way of living. When you create this kind of harmony your work can enhance your life and your life can enhance your work.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am Broker/ Owner of Rodney Fentress Real Estate LLC and Keyrenter of Hampton Roads Property Management. I am a retired Police Sergeant and that experience has translated well in the world of Real Estate. People want to feel safe when working with a Real Estate Professional. They are not involved in real estate deals everyday so when working with someone who does they want to feel like that person will put their interests first and protect them from all of the bad things that can happen. I believe I provide that for my clients. As a Real Estate investor I am able to help my investor clients build their portfolios and provide quality property management services also making myself a one stop shop. I strive to be the one real estate solution that buyers, sellers, and investors need to be successful.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Miami and I am not sure that a week would be enough to take it all in. Depending on the time of year I would want to engage in a sporting event for sure. Taking in a Miami Heat game or a game at the U would be a great part of any visit. I definitely would have them order the Peking Duck while having a great dinner at Komodo. We would also need to get on the water and cruise the Miami River, visit Haulover Sandbar, and in general just take in the incredible skyline of Miami from the water. We would need to spend some time in South Beach and get a drink at the Clevelander. Hopefully we could get into Liv on a weekend night as well.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been blessed with many mentors and I have always made every effort to give back as a result. I have been greatly impacted by the Robert Kiyosaki books. The Rich Dad/ Poor Dad series really lit a fire under me. From there I was led to read more and more. Fortunately I was introduced to Grant Cardone’s book “The 10X Rule”. That book and the rest of Grant’s work has really thrown gas on my fire.
