We had the good fortune of connecting with Summer Day and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Summer, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote, I used it for my high school year book and it says “never forget where you come from but always remember where you made it”. What I like about this is that I worked so hard to remove myself from a deep hole after my father left me and my family. We went through so many trials and tribulations with our living arrangements and many more issues and it caused me to be depressed. Dancing and singing brought me out of it all, I had no idea the influence I can have on people just by doing me and actually loving what I do. Remembering this quote has taught me to be grateful for coming out of dark place but to also remember I worked hard to do so and I’ll “never forget where I come from” because it was a humbling experience, but I’ll always “remember where I made it” so I can not go back to that dark place again.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I believe what sets me apart from others is my name, Summer Day. It’s so special and unique. The fact that I’m blessed with the talent to dance, sing, do hair, rap, edit my own videos, and doing in home photoshoots, it just shows that I can’t sit back and not show the world me. I have to be someone great in life. I’m the only one out of 5 of my mom kids who doesn’t share a birthday. All of my siblings are born on the same day, same month, different years, I am also the only one with a season name. I got to where I am at today because I learned to move through life with positivity and gratitude no matter how I was treated from others, I knew that returning the same energy will only take me back to square one in life and that square wasn’t a good one so I found my best friend Jacquita Hester in life and created a small circle with her, my sister Kimbriel Day & A family friend Endy Louis. It wasn’t easy getting to this point in my life it came with a lot of people being around me who only wanted to party and not work, from men who only wanted to use me because they saw my potential but a lot prayer and manifesting brought me out. I started to see the good in everything even if the situation reached its breaking point. I’ve learned that you can’t focus on what others are doing and how they are eating because the whole time your plate can be full and ready for you to quit starving but your not focused and your plate is waiting for you to make the first move. You also have to stay humble and remember if it’s for you, it won’t pass you by, you just have to be ready with open arms to receive everything you’ve ever wanted out of life. I want everyone to know that I was a person with a lot of thoughts in my head about how far I’ll get in life, it started to take over my mind and my life itself. Today I am at peace even while I’m going through some small things, I’m forever grateful to be here and still being able to wake up and reach further towards my goals.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Some good places I would love to explore with my friends if they come would definitely be Ocean One. It’s an amazing food spot in broward with great deals on drinks and specials all across their menu. Another place that I’ve experienced in Miami many times is brick house in wynwood. The area is so nice and full of different spots you can either eat at, Drink, party & more. Brick House is a vibrant and lit place to go on weekends no matter what day. The beach will always be something we go to and enjoy ourselves at, South Beach & Dania Beach To Be Exact. Dania Beach Has This Restaurant Called “Quarter Deck” Omg! Their Food Is Top Notch.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Going through the motions in life and trying to figure it all out, i definitely didn’t do it by myself. I want to give a special shout out to my mom, Yattie Ottey & my step dad Richard Ottey for pushing me to do things I knew I could do but had a lot of doubt doing it. I also would like to thank my dance organization The Lovely Ladies Of TorQue” for showing and teaching me so much about sisterhood no matter what. I love these girls and I’m honored to still be apart of something so great. Huge and special shoutout to my Miami dance group “Aint No Chill Ent” where we do ALL styles of dancing and put on for our culture. SoFlo Jook Has made a powerful impact around the world thanks to DjJam305, Dj Loosekid, FweaGo Jit & Tre Oh Fie.
