We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Krug and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my own business because I saw a need in the market that I knew I could fill. Interior design has largely, in the past, been reserved for the wealthy. I knew I could create a business that made those services accessible to a wider audience. I use technology to connect with people all over the country and help them design their spaces from the comfort of their homes. My goal has always been to help others see and harness their own creativity.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What sets me apart from other designers is my ability to recreate any aesthetic. Most designers have a specialty or a specific look that customers seek them out for. My gift is being able to take inspiration photos and help translate them into a custom design for the client. My biggest challenge has always been changing the customer’s mindset about what interior design is, and how it works. Most people believe that you have to buy expensive things for a room to look put together and high end, which isn’t the case. My goal is to show customers their own creativity and help them turn it into something they’re proud of.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, how I love Tampa! There is something for everyone here. We have beaches, and art districts, as well as high-end shopping and sky, rises. I am a foodie at heart and so the restaurants would be my go-to. One of my favorite restaurants in Tampa is Pane-Rustica. It’s an Italian restaurant, but they have a nightly chef’s menu with daily specials and they are all phenomenal.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of my favorite mentors has always been Mary Williams. She is a business etiquette expert and an inspiring friend. I have been blessed to have many mentors throughout my entrepreneurial journey and I highly recommend a coach to anyone trying to advance in their career. Regardless of what field your in, find a tribe that supports you and lean into that.
