We asked some phenomenal entrepreneurs about their thought process behind starting their own businesses. Our hope is that by making the thought-process less intimidating we can help more folks think through whether they should take an entrepreneurial leap.

Life has a funny way of putting you on your path. I was building my career in corporate healthcare, focused on strategy and project management, and then I moved to Miami without knowing anyone. I started meeting women who had their own businesses or dreams of starting one, and through friendship during my free time, I naturally stepped into a role of support, helping them bring structure and clarity to their work. It started when I worked for a small design firm in Brooklyn, NY. It was nearing year end and I was excited for my bonus, because I wanted to do some traveling the following year. Before the month ended, my boss approached us and said that we wouldn’t be getting a bonus that year. I put a lot of time in growing their business, so it left a sour taste. That’s when I checked out mentally. A month later, I left them to start my own practice. Read More>>
Starting my own business was a natural step in my journey. Coming from a humble background, where my family ran a bakery in Parque Tayrona, I learned the value of hard work and perseverance from an early age. My passion for music took me across continents—from Colombia to Europe—always chasing a dream inspired by the rhythms that shaped me: vallenato, champeta, salsa, hip-hop, R&B, reggaeton, and more. Starting JOYIGNITEPR was a deeply personal and strategic decision. Throughout my career, I had the privilege of working with luxury brands, entertainment giants, and international media outlets. I witnessed firsthand the power of storytelling, the impact of cultural relevance, and how strategic PR could elevate brands to new heights. But I also saw a gap—brands needed more than just traditional PR; they needed a fresh, dynamic approach that blended media relations, experiential marketing, and digital storytelling, all while embracing multicultural insights. I started ceramics in August of 2022 after being gifted a 5 week class by my parents. I quickly fell in love with it. I really enjoyed making things and using them myself or gifting them to family and friends to use. After about a year, I felt comfortable enough with my work that I felt I might be able to sell it. I was building up inventory, making pieces week after week with no where for them to go. I loved the idea of having people enjoy my work. So, Art by Ali was born. Read More>>
Helping—that’s always been my driving force. I wanted to support parents and their children with school assignments, assist students struggling with reading and math, and, most importantly, help them build confidence and believe in themselves. The increasing workload of assignments, projects, and tests can be overwhelming for families, impacting not only quality time together but also children’s mental well-being. My motivation has always been to ease that burden. If we can make life a little easier for families and help students reach their academic goals, then our mission is truly fulfilled. Read More>>
We are two Argentine doctors who have lived in the U.S. for almost 10 years. As both doctors and patients, we recognized the challenges Argentinians abroad face with foreign healthcare systems, such as language barriers and cultural differences. From our own experiences and feedback from others, we saw an opportunity to connect Argentinians worldwide with trusted healthcare professionals in Argentina. Our goal is to offer them the chance to manage their medical needs, like consultations and studies, in their native language and in a familiar, comforting environment, making healthcare more accessible and personal for all Argentinians abroad. My journey to starting this business was fueled by a lifelong passion for soccer, ignited in my childhood in Glasgow, Scotland. After witnessing the need for innovation in coaching and a desire to create lasting, positive experiences for young players led me to Soccer Stars. Driven by the belief that introducing children to soccer fosters not just skills, but a lifelong love for the sport and creates lasting memories. I wanted to build something that would enable me to share my passion and make a difference, ensuring every child has the opportunity to experience the joy and transformative power of sports. It all started with a side hustle of flipping houses and condos, where I learned how to identify undervalued properties, bring them back to life, and maximize their value. One of the biggest lessons from those early flips was understanding who the end user is and tailoring the renovations to fit their needs. For example, when we were flipping condos in South Florida, we knew our buyers were often retirees and older adults, so we removed bathtubs and installed walk-in showers with handles to make the spaces more accessible. In single-family homes, we focused on maximizing square footage — sometimes converting patios into additional rooms — to appeal to growing families. Read More>>
