We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Anne Hunt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Wendy Anne, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
Only the things for Christ will last. This helps to keep me focused on prioritizing the right things. It is easy to get overwhelmed by the good, and neglect the best. This helps me to keep the first things first.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have found that the closer I walk with God the more creative ideas He blesses me with. He is the MOST creative…we can observe that just in looking around us at nature, the universe, the intricate parts of the human body, every snowflake!

What sets me apart is that I try to write God’s thoughts after Him. For each devotional entry, for instance, it started with me asking Him, ‘What do you want to say to your people?’ For my youth adventure novel series, The Orphan and the King, it began in prayer as I was praying for my husband and the team he was serving with who were in Mexico at the time building a playground for an orphanage. During that time of prayer, God really revealed to me His tender heart for the orphan and His desire that they should know that HE is their Father and the depth of His love for them. That is where that story was birthed from.

My two CD’s, Promises in the Night I and II, are each 70 minutes of God’s promises to His children from Genesis through Revelation set to soothing music and soft nature sounds for kids to fall asleep to. God says our minds are renewed by His word. I felt like He wanted me to create a vehicle for kids to have their minds renewed by His promises in wording they can understand, and in a soothing way that would bring calm and peace to their hearts.

My new book series for grades 3-6, The Milkshake Chronicles, was formed from my desire to help teach kids Biblical truths that would help them in struggles they are facing every day…whether at school, home, wherever. The first book of the series teaches kids constructive, Biblical ways to respond if they are the recipient of bullying. It also has a ton of fun woven in…very colorful characters, original milkshake recipes, cow jokes, amazing AI illustrations, etc. Fun books with a good purpose!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would definitely take them to the historical hot spots such as the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island in NY, and some of the other interesting things up there like Rockefeller Center. I would also take them to the American Dream Mall, which is just an amazing structure to see, with its indoor ski slope, indoor amusement park, etc. Then we would hit Philadelphia and take in the historical site there such as The Liberty Bell. City Tavern is a must to dine one evening, as it boasts fare from the colonial period and the workers are dressed in traditional colonial garb, which makes it fun…it is like taking a step back in time.

Other places to eat would include The Bistro in Haddonfield, NJ. If they are from out of the country like my husband’s family, who are from Ireland, at least a couple of trips to Chick-Fil-A are a must…they absolutely LOVE Chick-Fil-A!

We would find some local coffee shops to hang out and talk over our choice of beverage and maybe close them out an evening or two catching up on each others lives.

I would also take them on Sunday to visit our church, True North, in Mullica Hill, NJ. Some of the most wonderful people on the planet, then probably go to Mission BBQ for lunch.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would say that my present success with regards to my bestselling devotional is due in part to a wonderful young woman whom I have been privileged to know for about 25 years now…Kristen Diaz.

God blessed me with the gift of prophecy over 30 years ago, and through the years I have been privileged to be able to use that gift to encourage His church, most often on Sunday mornings during the church service. Kristen would often tell me how these words of encouragement had blessed her and helped to strengthen her walk with Christ. About 10 years ago she reached into her bible and pulled out a tattered piece of paper with one of these encouraging words which she had asked me to send to her and told me that it still blesses her and she refers back to that word often. She asked me if I had ever considered compiling all of these words into a devotional book. That is what really birthed that idea in my mind and heart, and God has truly blessed it. I am getting amazing feedback from folks that are being ministered to daily through its pages and are telling me that each day feels like it was written just for them and what they are going through that day. Only God can do that!
