I’ve always valued time with family and friends, but after my mother’s passing about 21 years ago, I took it to a higher level. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she said, “we have to create memories” – although she was always good at that. My time with the people I value is purposeful. So I work my day job and spend real quality time with my loved ones: dinners, vacations, nature walks…. At my death bed, no one will talk about my profession, hopefully they will reminisce about the fond times we spent together. With intent and genuine love, I make those times happen. “Create Memories” has become the family motto. Read more>>

Being a mom has definitely required me to balance work and life differently. As a child therapist, I know that children value quality time with their parents. I try to practice what I preach and make sure I schedule work so that I can be there for my own kids as well. This is the main reason I went into private practice, I wanted to be able to have some flexibility over my work hours. While work-at-home parenting has many benefits, the work/life balance can begin to erode from a lack of boundaries. I worked a lot, spent limited time with my Husband and my then one toddler at the time, and I felt the stress of having to answer to someone else’s unrealistic expectations.
