Meet Yukiko Toyoshima | CEO & Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Yukiko Toyoshima and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Yukiko, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
Always act from the loving part of yourself, and embrace the feelings of excitement that come with newness! From this basis, everything falls into place.

I have tested this formula and experienced the results, both in business and personally, on many occasions. It works!

Being a business owner, I receive many proposals such as: fabric supply, collaborations, business consulting services, advertising campaigns, website design, popup opportunities, etc.

From my experience, decisions made based on intuition, without fear, always work out well. Any proposal that seeks to arouse fear (“if you do not work with us, you’ll fail” etc.) simply is not for me. I embrace opportunities that expand my possibilities, and I am open to new experiences. I trust my instincts, and gauge if the situation is arousing a sense of love and possibility within me, or the opposite – fear and scarcity. If it’s love and possibility, I commit and go for it, and the details work themselves out.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started Pick Happy with the intention of making women happier. Over the past 20 years, I’ve traveled extensively to many parts of the world. I’ve been blessed with a rich set of experiences from meeting different people; seeing beautiful architecture; entering ancient, sacred spaces; tasting local cuisines; enjoying operas and musicals; and feeling the pulsing energy of large cities and the purity of small villages. Pick Happy dresses are created with inspirations from all those beautiful memories and diverse experiences.

The combination of our vibrant prints, natural soft materials, inspiring designs and our intention with love on each garment will remind you that you are special and beautiful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
For a best friend visiting for the day, I’d design a day that allows us to maximize our time together, while enjoying some things that are uniquely special to our area. I’d suggest a beach walk on Palm Beach Island, followed by a Mediterranean lunch downtown at Leila, where the baba ganoush is a must! And for afternoon entertainment, we could take in a performance at the beautiful Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.

For a longer visit, I’d suggest we explore Palm Beach and then take a road trip. Some of my favorite destinations would include the Don Cesar Hotel and Dali museum in St Petersburg, NASA in Orlando, and the Botanical garden in Naples.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
While I work on my designs, I often listen to podcasts that inspire me and help me grow. One of my favorites is “Mindvalley.” The founder Vishen Lakhiani shares his own experience and feelings, while conducting stimulating interviews with a diverse set of very successful people. I admire the way he is able to share his vulnerability, and create conversations where others feel comfortable doing the same. It is encouraging to learn that all these successful individuals have overcome some difficult times in their career and personal life. It gives me courage to keep going. In addition, I would give particular recognition to Gary Zukov, for his books and Podcasts. I have listened to the same episode of his podcast more than 20 times and I still learn new things every time. .

But it’s not just outside influences that bring me inspiration. Needless to say, Pick Happy would not be the same without my loving family and friends. They bring me so much joy and love. And, I take care to cultivate a living environment that supports and renews my inspiration. My day-to-day environment, including daily habits and routines, is profoundly important to helping bring my best self forward.
