Meet Paulina Maurovich | Book Reviewer & Blogger

We had the good fortune of connecting with Paulina Maurovich and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paulina, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The most important decision that I made to be successful in the book world is that I started posting for myself. I didn’t set up my account with a secret agenda to grow overnight but to meet and connect with people like me. Slowly these connections are what have allowed me to grow organically and have a following that I am proud of. This decision to be truthful to myself is what eventually drove to my first physical book tour, and the best part is that it was from a Hispanic author. This wouldn’t have happened if I didn’t talk about my roots and what makes a book shine in my eyes.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started Books We Love when I moved to Miami in 2016. I didn’t know what to make of it at first, but I knew I wanted to belong to a community that was mine. As the years went by I found my voice within the books I like, the authors I enjoy and purchase and most importantly the type of art that I promote and create on my platform. I knew that I wanted to be myself and show the truth of my likes and dislikes. I wanted to create a safe place for all types of readers and I did so by being honest about my reviews. Overcoming the challenges of social media is never easy because in a way you can kind of see it all as a competition, or like I did, choose to see it as a passionate portfolio. I didn’t set out to become a verified user, it is not what I want or what I desire to accomplish. My goal is to find readers like me and connect, with those goals in minds the social media world becomes more fun and less daunting.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Miami is a great city to drink. eat and visit. Some of the must see places include the Miami Zoo, which I love to go when it’s not to hot outside. Strolling through Lincoln Road and visiting Miami Beach is always fun. I recently visited Coco Walk and loved it. The food scene is also incredible. I would make a stop at Lagniappe which is a charcuterie and wine bar that is to die for. I would also stay true to my roots and take her to one of the many Venezuelan food trucks and fill their tummy with the best arepas. The night club scene is special and I will definitely take them to The Wharf on a Friday night and visit Club Space for a night and morning they won’t forget anytime soon.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom because she is the strongest woman I know who has taught me that the challenges the world and God sets in your way are not meant to bring you down but to enlighten and strengthen you. My dad who taught me love in its purest form. My biological father who has impressed me with his resilience. My partner who has aided in my dreams coming true, has supported me through the good and the bad.
