We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Kory and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tiffany, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I was just finally finished with my traumatic divorce, I was so honored and shocked to be invited to compete for the first ever Ms. Illinois International in 2020. It was a huge risk to try to shine again after everything I had been through. Taking that step led me to win not only that title, but eventually Ms. Illinois World International, Ms. USA Universe and now Ms. Universe Global. I published my book titled “Ms.” and it became an Amazon Best Seller. I want to encourage other women that they can be a queen too, even if they have no king, no matter the title they hold; Ms. Mrs. or Miss.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My book “Ms.; No Matter the Title, Rise From Trauma to Triumph and Learn to Love Yourself” is a story that I wrote about my journey through life that led me to a divorced, single mother at 40 years old and all the lessons that helped me to know that I am never alone, but alone, I really am enough. I knew that if I could not figure out how to love myself I could never use my pain as my purpose to help others. Writing was not only healing, but it gave me an outlet to voice my experiences that were happening to me in an impactful way. I have been a hair and makeup artist for over 20 years and during my divorce I went back to school and eventually opened my salon. I want people to feel beautiful on the inside and outside. I want to encourage anyone who reads my book to not let anyone ever make you feel. like you cannot accomplish your dreams and that it is need too late to change your path…just like you can change the color of your hair!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the Chicago suburbs. I would definitely spend the first night just eating and laughing and talking all night, just us. The next day, we would probably go shopping. We would have dinner in the adorable Downtown Plainfield area. Then we would dance and watch live music. The next day we can “chill” then we may want to hit a Chicago White Sox game! Then, we would have a night with friends and probably cook out. We would go to the pool for sure one of the days and laugh all day! If it is winter though, we will switch it to a Chicago Blackhawks game and instead of the pool, we can go snowmobiling and sledding! The most exciting people are all of my awesome friends so we would definitely have a blast!
(As you can tell I am spontaneous, so I don’t mind if something else amazing ‘pops’ up!)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shoutout to my son, N.J. He is 10 years old and he is my why and my purpose. I could not have done anything without his amazing positive encouragement and support. He has so proudly escorted me for the past 5 years and never complained once. I knew that this would be the first time in a long time that he would wipe happy tears from my eyes. I also want to teach him that there is nothing he cannot do, but it takes hard work and not giving in to your fears and doubts. I want him and everyone who is faced with adversity to know that it is never too late to pursue a new dream.
