We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolina Vengoechea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carolina, what role has risk played in your life or career?
As an immigrant I learned to be a risk taker watching my mother come to this country with four children, starting all over, and losing it all. It was the best lesson of my life. I learned that if things don’t go as planned, you must keep trying other ways, reinvent yourself, be curious, be fearless, be creative, be different, work hard, and never give up. Taking small risks at a younger age definitely created a habit that made me stronger for more challenging risks, like becoming a mother and opening my own business in a way that has never been done before. I adjusted my operation and prices as I was working. I learned by experimenting and executing. I enjoy the process watching my vision come alive. It is part of who I am.

What should our readers know about your business?
Beaubar Concierge Salon is the most convenient and innovative salon helping women look and feel great while maximizing their time. Beaubar is a mobile salon that travels to the customer location for hair color and haircut services. We are different from other home services because, first of all, we are an actual licensed salon. We don’t invade the customer’s privacy, we are a self-sufficient salon built in a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van. Our customers love the fact that it is comfortable, they don’t have to wash their own hair over the sink, clean hair from their floor, drive, pay for parking or take a whole day off to get the their hair done. It is fast, and luxurious, perfect for today’s fast-pace lifestyle. Beaubar is the only salon offering this type of service in the USA.
When I became a mother, I wanted to be able to manage my own schedule so I could be present in my daughter’s activities. Although Cosmetology was not my first career of choice, I fell in love with the industry, the creativity, the freedom and the possibilities of it. I started beauty school when my daughter was only three weeks old. Luckily I found a day care that accepted infants near the beauty school I was attending. I remember going to her daycare to breast feed my daughter during my lunch break. I’m not going to lie and say it was easy, but I didn’t have a choice. My mother and my sister owned a beauty salon and after class I would pick up my baby and bring her with me until late nights when we finished working. She actually took her first steps at the salon. Today I think about all that, and just laugh thinking how different the process is once we have kids. Then later when she was only two years old, I decided to get my bachelors in Fashion Design, which was my childhood dream.
I did really well in school and worked as a designer for a little while, but as I saw the changes in that industry shifting into fast fashion, I also noticed the change in the beauty industry. It is growing at a fast pace and very difficult to be replaced by technology. I really enjoy working with my customers, making them feel amazing. Empowering women is my main purpose. I truly believe a woman who feels confident about who she is, has the capabilities to achieve anything she sets her mind into.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh I love Miami so much, I enjoy driving the van around the city. The ocean is my happy place. I practice dragon boat racing on the weekends. It’s my new found sport and I’m loving every minute of it. I also do Crossfit at the best box in Miami, Peak 360. it’s a great community to be part of. Coral Gables has great shopping and dinning. I love a good steak house, happy hour, or just going for a walk around Miracle Mile and Giralda. One of my favorite stores is Trends boutique because its a mom/daughter place. I can shop for myself and my daughter in one place that has the latest fashion trends. As much as I enjoy the trendy side of Brickell and Wynwood, now that the weather is cooling down, I love taking a mini break visiting the ranches in the south area of the Redlands to pick strawberries, visit the sunflower fields, or just having lunch or smoothies on a hammock. Berry farm, Redland Ranch and Robert is here in Florida CIty are some of my favorite spots to visit.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I come from a family of strong women who are creative with entrepreneurial spirit, but I have to thank everyone and everything that has come to my life to teach me a lesson. The most valuable are usually learned after unexpected failures and difficulties. When I started to view adversity from that perspective, It shifted my mind into a more positive person. I can confirm the old saying, we win or learn, but never lose.
