We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Borders and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I didn’t really choose the creative path. It honestly chose me. I have loved photography for as long as I can remember. My Granny started buying me disposable cameras when I was about three. I grew up in an Army family and we were always traveling to wherever my mom and dad were stationed, so my Gran would mail the cameras to me, I would take the pictures, and the next time I saw her, we would develop the film and go over my pictures. She was also a photographer and taught photography as well, so she would show me where I cut someone’s feet off or how it was blurry, etc. We did this for most of my childhood. It wasn’t until I entered high school that my love of photography became the focus of what I wanted to do with my life. I got on the yearbook photography team and began taking photos. When the yearbook was finally published, I was hooked! I loved seeing my images in print. I decided I wanted to get a degree in Photography and learn the history as well as new techniques and equipment, so I enrolled at Daytona State College. It was there that I earned my Associate’s Degree and knew I had to know more. After graduating, I enrolled at the University of Central Florida and earned my Bachelor’s Degree. I had my images hung in multiple museums and even purchased by an art collector in New York. I have worked extremely hard to get my own Photography business up and running and I truly love what I do. I’ve been published nationally and internationally and have recently photographed images used in a local magazine. I love knowing that I can help people remember the most important moments of their lives. Photographs stop that instant in time and allow us to relive those feelings and emotions, which I think is incredible.
What should our readers know about your business?
I am the sole owner and operator of my business. I specialize in Editorial, Wedding, and Lifestyle photography. I’m known for my unusual eye and the way I photograph weddings. I am also known for my interesting styled Editorial shoots. I like to really get involved and creative with my clients. We have a great time during our shoots – even though they can be extremely demanding. My clients and I enjoy our time and truly get to know each other. I don’t just show up, point a camera, and then leave. I get to know the people I work with and understand what is important to them, so I can be sure to capture that in their images. I also donate time to different local Veteran’s organizations. Both of my parents served in the Army and I try to give back to our Veterans whenever possible – no matter what branch they served in. I love it! I believe everyone should be able to have high-quality images of their special days, so I do everything within my power to work with people and help them make that a reality. My clients have been wonderful, and I am extremely grateful for them.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So, I live in quite a small town (Spring Hill), but we sure do have some amazing food! We also aren’t far from Tampa & St. Pete. Food wise, we have some of the best BBQ, Thai, Pizza, and much more. Ron’s Roadside for BBQ, Thai Spice or Thai Cuisine, Pj’s Pizza, Richie’s Cheesesteak, Coney Island, Wing Stop, and a bunch of yummy food trucks. For a fun time – between all the eating – I would take them to the beach, I love Treasure Island. There are also some fun dancing places down in St. Pete, so I’m sure we would swing by there too. We would most certainly do a movie night and some bowling as well!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my Shoutout to my amazing parents! My mom and dad have been so supporting and have helped me so much. I couldn’t have gotten to where I am today without them!
