We had the good fortune of connecting with Noel Cunningham and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Noel, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
The most critical decision for me was to believe in myself. Believing in yourself is not an easy task because often times the dreams/goals seem impossible. Still, the power of believing and working towards the dream allowed me the strength to achieve which contributed to my success.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a chef, cookbook author and culinary podcaster. What sets me apart is finding my niche and knowing exactly what I want to do from the start of my career. When I was starting my business it was challenging to come up with a name for the business because I didn’t want to put my business or brand in a box, so I came up with the name “Cuisine by Noel” which gives me the creative freedom to express myself through my art with my own interpretations. I am most proud of my cookbook, which I launched in 2019 the reason for this is that its something I dreamt of doing since I was in High school and to see it actually come to life I am super proud and excited and doing a book is not a small task it takes a lot and I challenged myself.
I got where I am professionally because I created my road map mentally when I was in High school, I know what I want and I’m always willing and ready to take myself to the next level. I believe in myself and my abilities. The road to where I am successfully is not easy, but the good and the bad make it what it is. The lesson I have learnt is that motivation is like taking a shower we need one every day I gotta stay motivated and encouraged because every day comes with its own ups and down but most of all success is a journey and not a destination. what I want the world to know about me or my brand is that I am one of the Jamaican chef that help to take Caribbean food on a global stage by changing the way it is view.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my foundation supporters: Mother Jennifer Laidley, aunt Miriam Baker and Ellaine Harris who supported my vision of becoming a chef. I want to thank all those who contributed significantly, whether with a yes or no—shoutout to my social media family the #NoelNation for their continued love and support.
