We had the good fortune of connecting with Francis Peña and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Francis, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
Oh yes, my favorite quote is “Intenta De Nuevo”, it means “Try again”. No matter how hard things can turn, it doesn’t matter how difficult life could get, I always keep going and never stop until I reach my goals. The quote means a lot to me because it became like a kind of “mantra”, and took me to the place I am right now, personally and professionally.
What I like about this phrase is that being so simple, can get super deep, depending on the importance you give to it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well, I am a drummer and percussionist from Dominican Republic. I’ve been playing for more than 20 years now. I. got to where I am right now professionally, because of my dedication and determination. It hasn’t been easy at all. A lot of sacrifices were made. A few years ago I had to leave my country (Dominican Republic) in order to pursue a better education in my area, and looking for more opportunities. I have learned tons of lessons, one of the most important, the value of time. We can’t let people to disrespect our time, because that’s something you won’t get back for sure!
Something that I would love the world to know about me is my desire of working and make good music with a great team of people and the way I enjoy to learn new stuff with cool people.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh definitely to a Dominican food spot. Depending on the time of the day. A must, should be a mofongo at Milly’s restaurant either for lunch or dinner. I could take them to watch some live music, the Clevelander is a nice spot to do that and get a few drinks and have some fun! And after the fun and drinks, more fooooddd hahah! During those long nights the endings are at El Primo, to get good chimis and frituras.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is a looooot of people that I should dedicate my shoutout, starting with my parents of course that always support me, no matter what. My girlfriend that has been an incredible human being, lifting me every time I fall. All my close friends that give me their hands anytime I need them.
