We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Susan, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always been an artist. I studied painting and drawing in college. My passion for color and design attracted me to flowers. I find that I am always learning from them. The variety of flower types and of their colors never cease to amaze me. I am at my happiest working with my hands. I also love the temporary nature of flower designs. Like life, they are not permanent. A temporary creation of beauty exists for a short time, making it more precious.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my career in New York City. I spent 20 years there designing flowers for some amazing clients. New York is one of the most fabulous places to design flowers because of all of the opportunities available such as; galas, parties, weddings, movies, television, magazines etc. I was fortunate enough to work on some spectacular movies while I was there. “the Age Of Innocence”, by Martin Scorsese, was one of my highlights. In search of a healthier lifestyle, I moved to Florida. I am now lucky enough to live by the ocean. My yellow lab, Quinn, and I enjoy many sunrise beach walks. I have been fortunate enough to continue my passion of floral design here through hard work and persistence. I have have met many people who have been kind enough to help me along the way.
Susan Lewis Flower Design offers flowers for gifts, weddings, events, home decor, photoshoots etc to people in Vero Beach and Palm Beach, Florida. My experiences in New York have exposed me to amazing culture and design style and also a keen sense for the business side and the knowledge and ability to run large scale productions.
I love designing flowers. It has been my life’s passion. It is so important to follow your passion in life, no matter what obstacles are put in your path. It’s what life is all about.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Vero Beach, Florida, is where I now live. I would definitely take my friends to the beach to enjoy the beautiful waters we have here. Sunrise walks on the beach are a must.

Restaurants:
Ocean Grill. For seafood. Love to sip on a martini while eating oysters at the bar.
Costa d’Este, Gloria Estefan’s hotel and restaurant, is also a lovely place for cocktails and good food,
Cobalt at Vero Beach Hotel and Spa.
All three places are on the ocean with a lovely view.

I highly recommend a visit to McKee’s Garden to tour the gorgeous tropical garden. A bike ride down Jungle Trail is also a fun activity in Vero. A trip to Vero a beach wouldn’t be complete without a ride on Captain Bob’s Airboat Adventure.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Paul Reuckwald, New York. As my first employer in New York, he taught me the basics in floral design and brought me into the world of designing for movies. Bill Tansey in New York, I worked with Bill in many huge Galas in New York, like Met on Stage. His talent and humor are a constant inspiration.
Suzanne Rheinstein, Los Angeles. A talented Interior designer with style, grace and elegance.
David Phoenix, Palm Beach. A brilliant interior designer with a kind soul.
Jordan Saunders, Palm Beach. A generous and gifted woman who’s sense of style is unmatched. She has been my angel.
Cindy O’Dare, Vero Beach. An inspiring business woman who’s generous heart and keen business sense has been an inspiration.
