Meet Amanda Doering | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Doering and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
My thought on risk is that anything worth having or doing should contain an element of risk. Risk has always been a motivator for me as I enjoy anything that tests my comfort level and keeps my blood pumping. Life should be exciting! I started my business at the age of 24 with no formal design training. What I had was a lifelong passion for the subject and a drive that pushed me to teach myself everything I know about interior design and about running my business. I love everything about what I do from listening to my clients stories about how they aspire to live to the reveal at the end where I see that look on their faces that lets me know that I have just changed their world for the better. The age old adage is true, “without risk, there is no reward”. I say, chase your dreams if you’re lucky enough to have them, that’s what we were put here to do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to think what sets me apart professionally is my deep interest in the families I design for. I want to know how you eat, your nighttime routines & how you watch television with your families. I believe in the psychology of proximity and strive to bring my clients closer together in the most visually pleasing way possible.
It’s quite easy to design a space. It takes skill and care to design a home and that’s what I take pride in doing. I love people and I always try to make the design process as fun and easy as possible. I’ve been extraordinarily lucky with the clients I’ve worked with and more often than not I’ve enjoyed their homes as a guest and am always so pleased with how well they function.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being in the homemaking business, I have always loved to entertain. When guests come to town, there is nothing I love more than serving up a beautiful craft cocktail and jumping on the boat for a sunset cruise on the way to dinner. The first night should be as comfortable as possible. The second and third days are built for adventure. I love a Palm Beach/Miami split. It’s always fun to take The Brightline up to Palm Beach for lunch and shopping on Worth Avenue then lunch at St. Ambroeus on Royal Poinciana. For dinner, you can’t go wrong with Buccan.
I also love driving down to Miami’s Design District or a trip to Vizcaya for a tour of one of the most visually stimulating American estates ever built, followed up with a trip to The Bal Harbour Shops and dinner at The Surf Club.
The fourth day is most definitely a travel day. Benjamin Franklin once said that houseguests are like fish in that after three days they both start to stink and unfortunately I don’t think there is anything more true than that statement.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank Ann Johnson for introducing me to my love of design. Her flawless taste and interior style has been an inspiration to me for as long as I can remember. Also, I would be remiss if I failed to thank my family for their unending support.
