We had the good fortune of connecting with Behzad Bakhshandeh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Behzad, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I saw a lack of specialized bodywork in my area and decided to fill that void. After graduating from my Bachelors program I went straight into massage therapy school with the plan to open my own business once my license came in. I started working on anyone that was willing to hire me and my business grew from there.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Summit Performance Therapy is a clinical/medical massage therapy practice that specializes in body mechanics and performance. I like to say that you come see me when you need your body to work the way it is supposed to rather than feeling relaxed. I have implemented the use of several Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) tools, body tempering, cupping, electrical stimulation, and energy work throughout the years which allows my clients to recieve a pletera of services during their time with me.

The first year of business was tough but I have been very lucky to have clients that share their experience with their friends, family, and coworkers with has allowed my business to grow organically and naturally without any marketing. There has been a few mistakes over the years but I believe that you must embrase your mistakes and learn from them.

In the recent years I have worked World’s Strongest Man, United States Strongman Nationals, The Arnold Classic, many local powerlifting, strongman, highland games events, and a few marathons/races. Each event I work I continue to build my reputation and build a sense of community with all of my clientele.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My business is located in Auburn, Massachusetts and when my friend and family come by for a visit we always spend time eating at our favorite spots.

For pizza, Tony’s in Sutton, MA or Antonio’s in Worcester, MA. Tonys if we want Greek style pizza and Antonio’s for thin New York style.

If we are looking for meat, my favorite spot is Pampas Churrascaria, an all-you-can-eat Brazillian steakhouse in Worcester, MA. Everything from sirloin steak and beef ribs to sausages and lamb.

If we are craving Middle Eastern cuisine, nothing beats the shawarmas at Bahnan’s in Worcester, MA or Chop Kabob in Shrewsbury, MA. Good quality food with great owners.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that I can add to this list, but I will try to keep it short

First, my mom Fariba Bayliss. She has always supported me and helped me with any dreams of being an entrepreneur.

Second, my wife Taylor Bennett. She has always pushed me to take risks beyond my comfort level and not settle for anything below what I know I’m worth.

Third, my chiropractor Dr. Karl Engelhardt. He has taught me so much in the years I have been working with him about how to treat my clients and how to run a successful business by building a close client/operator relationship.
