We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle and Dianna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kyle and Dianna, what do you attribute your success to?
As a family full of pet owners, both dogs and cats, we understand how much love and care goes into providing the best for our four-legged friends. We wanted to create a fun, cool, and innovative experience that resonated differently with pet owners than the traditional pet store. A concept that separates us from the rest, where the experience of the dogs comes first, has been the most important factor in the success of this business venture. Having the ability for our brand to create a place that brings nothing but smiles to everyone who walks is truly rewarding. Quality customer service, healthy ingredients, and overall joy are our top priorities for pets and their owners.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Dianna and Kyle are a mother-son team who opened up a Dog Ice Cream/Bakery in Delray Beach last year. Dianna is a retired NYPD Sergeant. She did 25 years in the NYC Police Department, moved down to Florida about three years ago, and always wanted to open up some pet retail shop to promote rescues and educate people about dog/cat adoptions. Kyle was working a city job and decided that it was not the path he wanted to pursue. He has always been quite the entrepreneur, having a successful online clothing company before opening up Scoopy Doo’s. While developing the clothing line, which was focused mainly on Law Enforcement and Military personnel, he learned that things are not as easy as they seem. It has not been an easy road, but what success story does have an easy road? We have both overcome challenges by working together as a family.

If you genuinely love what you do and have a passion for it, it will show in every aspect of the store, and people will feel that good energy! Scoopy Doos came to life because we wanted a place for people to bring their dogs and cats where they could hang out, relax and enjoy being with their pets. We offer dog/cat ice cream, a bakery section, a bully bar with over 50 bones and treats, collars, leashes, food, and toys.

When you come into our shop, we want you to feel like the old-school small business mom-and-pop owned stores that, unfortunately, are not around much anymore. Unlike the large chain pet stores, when you ask someone behind the counter where something is, and they point and say down aisle 10, we do not do that! When you enter the shop, you are greeted by a knowledgeable person who can tell you about everything product we have in store. If your pup has a particular dietary need, we can usually accommodate them with one of our treats. We do not sell dogs, just the opposite, we host dog/cat adoption events monthly for local rescues and try to educate the importance of adopting and fostering. We have been fostering for over ten years, so we are well-versed in it. It doesn’t matter where you get your pup from; as long as you love them, that’s all that matters.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Visiting Delray Beach is a must, right down the block from the shop! If you are new to visiting the area, we recommend you stop by the visitor’s center across from the beach. They have all types of information on the best places to go. Then, make your way over to our shop, Scoopy Doos! We are the only Dog Ice Cream shop in Delray and a great place to bring your pup or to take some treats home to them. After visiting the shop, you can walk along East Atlantic Avenue, where there are many great places to eat, drink, and shop. Delray is super dog friendly, so know where ever you go; your pups are more than welcome!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We want to shout out our family and friends for their fantastic love, support, and encouragement in this venture. Many outsiders have been skeptical of the overall success of the concept behind this business. However, our drive, with added family and friends’ support, is a driving force to attaining our goal of creating a business during a time of great uncertainty in the world. In addition, Kyle was inspired by experienced entrepreneurs and their books, such as “Rich Dad Poor Dad” written by Robert T. Kiyosaki. It taught him the fundamentals of investing and gave him the building blocks and courage to create multiple businesses throughout his career as an entrepreneur.
