We had the good fortune of connecting with Chad and Laura Kennedy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chad and Laura, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
It is a lesson that I am still learning every day, but it is work for progress not perfection. I think it is counter intuitive to what I want to do many times. I give 100% so for a long time I thought that meant not doing something until it’s perfect. However, that caused me to hold off and procrastinate too many times. It also created a lot of stress to feel no accomplishment until something was perfect. And you know what, it never ends up being perfect, because that is impossible. Currently, my goal is to schedule out what I need to get done for the day so I feel better and more accomplished. I also create a checklist of things to accomplish in the year and month. Sure, some days are better than others. One day can be incredibly productive, while others I feel like I got minimal things done. When I feel frustrated, it is helpful to go look at the checklist and see how many things I actually have gotten done. It gives me a new burst of motivation knowing that progress is happening no matter how small.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We want people to know that Miami is very diverse and welcoming to people from all over the country and World. Our business and family reflects this diversity. One of the exciting things about helping people move to Miami is that we both moved to Miami from very different places and cultures. Chad moved from Colorado after finishing law school in Denver where he grew up. Laura was born in Colombia but moved when she was a child and grew up in Miami. We both met in Miami and fell in love, and we are not sure that two people from such different areas could have met in any other city. We love to show people the beautiful areas and homes in Miami; as well as be the tour guides for all the amazing food, music, natural beauty and active sports to do around this Magic City.

Our family is involved in martial arts and it is a big part of our life. The samurai code is something that is important in the martial arts life. We feel it is important to incorporate those values in our daily life and with our business. They are: Justice, Respect, Courage, Honor, Benevolence, Honesty and Loyalty. It is important for us to conduct ourselves in our business in line with these principles. I think this is one of the things that really sets us apart and helps us receive referral business because we treat all clients with these values.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Miami has grown so much over the past years and there are so many new places to discover that it makes this hard. However, this would be our plan!

The first place we lived together in Miami was in South Beach. It a nostalgic area for us and we love showing people around South Beach. So we would start by grabbing a sandwich at La Sandwhicherie or takeout from Joes Take Away. Joe’s Take Away is part of the famous Joe’s Stone Crab, but more of a cafe to grab food for the beach. The we would head down to South Point Park for a picnic which is always full of locals and very lively. Then take a short walk to the beautiful Atlantic Ocean to soak up some rays and play a little sand volleyball. After being out in the sun all day we could finish up by doing some shopping on Lincoln Rd and having another bite to eat or a drink at one of the many cafes on the pedestrian street.

We would the take them to see the art walls in Wynwood. We could dine at Wynwood Kitchen which is right in the middle of the art walls. Next, it would be fun to walk to the breweries around Wynwood, as it is an area with one of the higher concentrations of local breweries. Two we would definitely check out are J Wakefield and Veza Sur.

After a couple of days indulging in delicious food we would work it off with some active outdoor activities in Key Biscayne. Key Biscayne has so many options to be active and out in nature. We could mountain bike throughout a national park with great views of Biscayne Bay or get out on the water with a paddle board or kite board. The many outdoor activities are one of the best parts of my Miami.

No trip would be complete without going to walk down Calle Ocho so this is where we would go on our final day. First, we have to see Domino Park where cubans come to socialize and play dominos. It has been featured in many movies and is an essential part of the culture in Miami. After that, we would head to Old Havana’s to listen to live music, sip on a mojito and have Cuban food; maybe pick up a hand rolled cigar to save for after dinner this evening. After resting after the big meal, we would finish the tour of Miami by having a last meal at one of the newly minted Michelin Starred restaurants that Miami has to offer. Our choice would be Cote which is famous for it’s Steak.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?

We want to dedicate our Shoutout to family. We have the privilege of working in the real estate business together as a married couple. For us, it is very complementary. Laura and I have different backgrounds in business, she was an engineer and project manager and I was a real estate attorney. The difference in our backgrounds gives us the chance to be the full package for our clients. It also allows us to have a good work-life balance as one of us can take care of work while the other is able to be present with our twin daughters Cali and Gianna.
My family has been influential as both my parents worked in real estate growing up. I started my first real estate brokerage and development company with my Father, who has since retired. Laura’s family has been very influential by being and referring some of our very first clients when we started.
