We had the good fortune of connecting with Krystal Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krystal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always seen myself owning my own business. Even as a little girl I used to tell my mom that I wanted to own McDonalds. As I got older the desire to be an entrepreneur only grew stronger with every job I worked. For me the question was what business would I start not if I would.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner and founder of two businesses; a therapy practice, Forward Motion Therapy Services and a nonprofit organization, Project TEN. Forward Motion Therapy Services strives to eradicate the stigma attached to mental health and therapy in the Black community. It helps that I look like those that I serve. Project TEN, on the other hand, offers transitional support to women and children seeking safety from domestic violence. Both of these are a labor of love. I’m most excited about the impact both organizations will have on mental health and keeping families safe. I always love when my clients are excited for therapy because they can see their own progress. I love educating and advocating. Building businesses, especially those that serve the often overlooked, has not been easy but always worth it. To overcome the various challenges, requires discipline and affirmations (yes, I use them too) “Hard does not mean impossible, you can do this.” There’s so much I can say about the lessons along the way, but the biggest would be to be okay with failures, that means you’re trying and you haven’t quit. It’s going to work as long as you are. I want the world to know that it’s okay to not be okay. I want Forward Motion Therapy Services to be a safe place for “us” to be ourselves. In so many spaces we aren’t able to show up as our authentic selves. Project TEN will be known for its advocacy efforts to help those who have misplaced their voices. Our goal is to magnify it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Places we must visit in no particular order: The night garden
Gospel brunch at Red rooster in overtown
Gondola ride through Fort Lauderdale while eating small bites from Casa Sensei
Brunch at Just Spoons in Fort Lauderdale
Breakfast at Derry’s (salmon croquettes please)
A Miami Heat game

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to dedicate my shoutout to my AMAZING, INSPIRING nieces, Keemori, Jada, Alayah and Sarai. I do this for them!
