We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittani Harvey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittani, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I’ve always been creative since I was young I love to sing, paint, dance, act, and, more. Music and creativity is in my blood I’ve been performing on stage since I was 3 years old. I knew one day I would create a space that brings good energy and allows creatives to be themselves I just didn’t know how.
Initially, I didn’t pursue a creative career when I went to the University of Central Florida. With Jamaican parents, you’re either a doctor or lawyer. but after learning about UCF Hospitality Program I was hooked. I started creating events for Rosen College of Hospitality and graduated with my Bachelor in Hospitality & Events Management.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been in this field since 2011 and the road to my accomplishments have been a trying one . It was not easy at all, but sometimes you have to fight for what you believe in. I’ve organized events on the corporate and social aspect before founding AME Events. The types of events I’ve done are tradeshows, weddings, conventions, family reunions, CEO meetings and the list goes on.
Since doing events independently I’m most proud of my Event Paint N Flow . It’s theBest Sip, Paint, and Open Mic Show in South Florida. Every 4th Friday 7pm-12am at The Spot Bar Lounge & Grill located at 4587 N University Dr Fort Lauderdale, FL. Truly an experience like no other I’ve built a community where the free spirits are welcomed and poets connect.
How I overcame challenges was by allowing myself to plan, rest, and be open to feedback. Communication is ALWAYS key. Being fluid and flexible is the best way to overcome a challenge. Once you have the mindset of bring it on you will always be adaptable.
Lessons I’ve learned along the way is Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance. Life is also a marathon and everyone’s finish line is different. Entrepreneurs hear NO a lot and that’s okay there’s a blessing in the redirection. Never force anything but work hard at your goals. Lastly, HAVE FUN! Life is about enjoyment find something you love keep doing it and once you get on bring your community with you.
What I want people to remember about my brand AME Events is that it will always be A Memorable Experience.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Eat- Anything Seafood I love crab! I would have to take them to The Spot Bar & Grill their food is amazing! Also, I love the vibe at Komodo and their seabass
Drink- I love Boba Tea! I don’t have a specific restaurant I’m obsessed with but I get the same order every time. Coconut Milk tea with Lychee jelly. SO YUMMY!
Hangout- I love the outdoors and the water! So definitely a botanical garden and jet skis type of day.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I had to think really hard about my shoutout and the people that have made an impcat in my life, but I have to take it back to the beginning when I was choosing my career.
My Shoutout would have to be for and my former Advisor/Mentor Dr Vanetta Davis Gainer and one of my first bosses Sabrina Deshner . These women don’t know the impact they had on my life but they spoke so much life into the younger me. They literally showed me it’s okay to be myself and to accept my magic. They were such great examples of being feminine and boss I am forever grateful for our connection.
