We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Radam and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kayla, what do you attribute your success to?
Perseverance. I guess in the entertainment industry you really learn to live with set backs and rejection and it can be quite challenging to pick yourself up everyday and strive for more. But the continued effort pays off when you book that dream job or see the finish line on a project that has faced challenges. The feeling of success keeps you going!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Firstly I am so lucky to call what I do ‘work’. I have performed all around the world on stage, tv and film. I have built a career in entertainment but it is not all bright lights and musical tunes. I trained all my life to become a professional dancer, singer and actress. In musical theatre you are called ‘triple threats’ because you have mastered all the aspects of performance. The dedication and discipline growing up meant a lot of sacrifice on social events and time with friends but i LOVED it and enforcing those strict behaviours as a young age gives you resilience. Something a performer must have to survive the industry.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well it’s Miami, so you have got to hit South Beach. The iconic Ocean Drive lined with palms and art-deco buildings that you recognise from the movies. While we are at it, we can hit Lincoln Road for a spot of shopping! Next stop, Wynwood. A day of walking the streets and taking in the incredible street art and if it’s the weekend, we can stop at Smogasburg food market for endless choices of incredible street food. In the evenings we would be sipping cocktails at Sugar, a rooftop bar in Brickell’s hotel EAST. There we can take in the most incredible views of Miami’s skyline. Lastly a day at Miami’s design district. Not only are the streets lines with the most beautiful store fronts for every designers flagship store but there are gallery’s and incredible art sculptures at every corner and if you are wanting an unforgettable meal, Michelin Star restaurant and Korean Steakhouse Cote will not disappoint.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family. They have lived and breathed this journey with me from being 5 years old. To my parents for driving me to practice 5 nights a week after school, to giving up weekends to travel to competitions. To my sister for doing my hair and make up and cheering me on from the audience. They have been by my side every step of the way, supporting me not only physically and mentally but also financially. They are my biggest fans and I would not be where I am today with out them.
