We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Hogle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, how does your business help the community?

At Pretty POWERful we are creating a world where no little girl, or woman, looks in the mirror and dislikes who she sees. We mentor girls through things that we wish we learned when we were little; like how to create self-love habits, making healthy choices, loving our bodies, speaking confidently, choosing healthy friendships etc. We offer in-person workshops, retreats, & an entire mother/daughter virtual empowerment program called Pretty POWERful Girl to support and empower every female to know that she is MORE than pretty….SHE is Pretty POWERful!

Women spend, on average, 12.5 hours a week thinking about their bodies and $250,000 in their lifetime to “fix” their appearance. I want to get women to step AWAY from the mirror and INTO a life they LOVE! And I believe we have to start shifting the focus away from our bodies at a young age. We help girls focus on their strengths, passions, self-care, body gratitude, goals, leadership and so much more. We provide a safe space for girls to be girls and in environments where they are valued for who they are, not how they look.

We aim to be part of the solution to the current problem like…

Around 50% of young 13 year old American girls reported being unhappy with their body.
80% of young teenage girls report fears of becoming fat.
Body image was listed in the top 4 concerns for young women.
80% of 10 year old girls have been on a diet.
74% of girls say they are under pressure to please everyone.
7 in 10 girls believe they are not good enough or do not measure up in some way, including their looks, performance in school and relationships with family and friends.
Girls are more anxious and prone to depression and self-harming more than ever before.

There are many girl empowerment programs that exist. What sets ours apart is that our program is intentional about including moms because we all know that as girls get older the mother/daughter relationship can get challenging. We also know, based on research, that moms are the single most important factor in a girls body confidence so we make it our mission to enhance the mother/daughter relationship as well as mentor not just the daughter, but provide mentorship and resources to moms as well so we are all growing together. We also provide an opportunity for girls to meet & grow with girls all over the country from different backgrounds so they expand their world & friendships further than just their local area.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Around 2017, after receiving a Masters degree in Sociology with a focus in women’s health & spending 5 years in the fitness/nutrition industry helping women try to gain true health & wellness through body confidence and self-love, I mentioned to a friend over coffee about the stats around girls & body image & confidence (because I’m a nerd and even after receiving my degrees I still read textbooks about the topics lol) and how something has to be done. She responded “so what can we do about it?”

“Well I have this idea….
A program for girls AND moms because research shows that moms are the most important factor in developing a girl’s positive body image. So it could be like a subscription box for moms and girls to do things together to help with communication and health and everything in between and they could have fun mom & me challenges to do together.”

And that idea and vision sat in my mind and on my heart for about 5 years.

Until 2022 when I started thinking more about my purpose to “create a world where every girl, and woman, looks in the mirror and loves who she sees.” And I decided to take a leap of faith in June 2022 and launch the Pretty POWERful Girl program.

Between my original idea and launch date I decided it needed to be WAY MORE than a POWER Girl box. In the program we decided to include daily empowerment text messages, monthly virtual mentorship calls (girls only, moms only, and mom & me events), and quarterly challenges for moms & daughters to do together.

July 1st the first POWER Girl Box was shipped.
October 1st the 2nd POWER Girl Box was shipped.
January 1st 2023 the 3rd POWER Girl Box was shipped.

We have shipped boxes from South Dakota, to Arkansas, to Ohio and everywhere in-between.

During our first 6 months in business we decided we also wanted to offer local (Columbus, Ohio) in-person events & mentorship.

August 2022 we had our first Mother/Daughter “Stronger Together” Weekend Retreat.
December 2022 we had our first POWER PARTY (a fun 1-day workshop for girls).

The program continues to expand & grow as we stay focused on our #1 mission of empowering and supporting girls & moms.

We want to live in a world where NO little girl, or woman, looks in the mirror and dislikes who she sees and our program does just that. We mentor girls through things that we wish we learned when we were little; like how to create self-love habits, making healthy choices, loving our bodies, speaking confidently, choosing healthy friendships etc.

We are excited to keep serving our girls & moms. We are so proud of the feedback that we have received from our members. Girls are constantly telling us they feel more confident, have learned how to choose better friends and be a better friend, and how to be grateful for their body for what it does. NOTHING is worth more than hearing those things!
