Meet Ben Shatil | Master Aesthetic Injector & Obstetric Anesthesiologist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ben Shatil and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ben, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I grew up in a home and family full of entrepreneurs. My parents always made time for me and my two sisters, whether for dinner, homework help or vacations, because owning their own companies allowed them to. I was the only one who spent multiple years in school and training (13 years to be exact!) in such a structured environment. When I completed my training as an obstetric anesthesiologist, I first worked at a large academic hospital. While I loved the medicine and teaching residents, I felt certain things in my life lacking. I had very little free time, limited vacation time and I was sleep deprived. My sister, Lee, is a well-known microblading and makeup artist in South Florida. Chatting with her one day, she motivated me to become my own boss and open an aesthetics clinic with her as my business partner. I continued practicing anesthesiology part-time, but suddenly had much more control over my schedule and lifestyle. While I am dedicated to my medical career, I am an even better physician now that I have a more well-balanced self of personal satisfaction.
What should our readers know about your business?
Growing a business is like raising a child, honestly. It takes lots of nourishment, attention and TLC, but it develops into such pride. I’ve always felt that my clinic is a reflection of me and my personality.First of all, my sister and I named it after our late father (YS = Yair Shatil). The atmosphere and decor of the clinic is very calming and has a Mediterranean flair. Since I was young, I have always loved to draw and sculpt. Aesthetics has allowed me to combine my love of medicine and my artistic skills, sculpting faces and bodies with the perfect balance. Finally, as an obstetric anesthesiologist, women’s health has always been important to me. We run a clinic that is female-empowering and also focuses on wellness, such as micronutrient supplementation and a vaginal rejuvenation laser procedure. We also welcome the entire LGBTQI+ community with open arms, and specialize in facial balancing for our transitioning patients. Because I have implemented so much of myself into this practice, it really has grown organically and naturally in a beautiful way. While there have certainly been challenges and growing pains, when you love your work, everything seems to work out. After all, I am now known internationally as the lip king.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I really love the Wynwood and Midtown areas of Miami because there is so much in a small area. The best is to park the car and walk around all day, getting lost at different restaurants, bars and parks. I love food with a lot of flavor and one of my favorite things to do is eating small bites at different places and restaurant hop. Then we could Uber over to South Beach and pop by the Soho Beach house to watch the sunset with a mojito in hand. Of course we would need to have dessert at least twice that day for the day to be complete. Maybe a passionfruit-condensed milk paleta from Morelia in Wynwood, a Nutella calzone from Pummarola or a merengue from Amazonica.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
While my parents, friends and spouse all deserve recognition for supporting me through the years, I am dedicated this moment to my sister and business partner, Lee. With her support, ideas and motivation, we were able to open YS Aesthetics together and grow it into a successful med spa. We decided to name it YS after our father who passed away in 2012, whose name was Yair Shatil.
