We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Levin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brooke, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
I believe that work/life balance is obtainable, but tricky to navigate. I think that a major factor in this is enjoying your job. It is mostly Monday through Friday, which is 5 days of the week. So you only have two days where your life is not succumbed to your job. I think it is important to do hobbies regularly, to be able to feel fulfilled with some activity that gives you purpose. If you are lucky, your hobby will be your job. Someone once told me that in order to get through the week, you always need something to look forward to. So, if you plan something to do every Wednesday, you will always have something to look forward to. On Monday and Tuesday you have Wednesday to look forward to and on Thursday and Friday you have the weekend to look forward to. I believe that is the best way to balance work-life. Of course, it changes over time. When you first start working a full-time job, it seems very overwhelming. But just know that you will adjust over time!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am currently a 7th grade science teacher. I did not originally go to school for teaching. I went to college for Exercise Science & Health Promotion. When I went t0 graduate, I had absolutely no clue what I wanted to do and I felt lost because there was not much to do with my major with just a Bachelor’s degree. I felt like I picked the wrong major perhaps, even though I loved it during school. So I moved home, from Florida to Pennsylvania and thought I would decide what I wanted to do from there. While I was home I picked up a substitute teaching job to see if I would like it, and I did! So I got my teaching certificate for Florida and got to move back. On the side I have an amazon storefront, I create videos on TikTok to sell amazon products, which is the primary source of happiness and fun for me. Digital Creation gives me fulfillment in life, I would like to eventually make that into a full-time job, so now I am just trying to break through in the industry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live not too far from Miami, about an hour away, so when my friends visit I love to take them to Miami. My favorite place in Miami is Brickell. I would stay at an airbnb in Brickell and then explore Miami out from there. In Brickell we could go to Sexy Fish, Komodo and Rosa Sky Bar. We could hang out at City Centre in Brickell as well. My favorite part of Brickell, is that you can walk anywhere. You can walk to this place called Brickell Key Park at sunset, and the views are beautiful and the walk is so relaxing. Also, one of the best science museums are in Brickell, The Frost Museum of Science. From Brickell, we could walk down Ocean Drive in South Beach and we could go to the beach for a relaxing trip. If we wanted to get more artsy we could go to Wynwood, and check out Wynwood Walls, and my favorite burger place: Kush.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think it is important to have a supportive group of friends surrounding you. I definitely thank my friends for always encouraging me to continue my hobby of digital creation on the side. Of course, my mom as well, she has been the most supportive of doing what makes me happy, so life is not just about surviving.
