We had the good fortune of connecting with KD Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi KD, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I firmly believe that our habits and our mindset have the unique ability to make or break us. We tend to underestimate the power of our minds and lack discipline when it comes to filtering our thoughts. Learning to achieve and maintain a healthy mindset has been an integral component to my success. Learning how to create a system and routine that works for me has changed the game for me. Another habit that has kept me in alignment is killing comparison and self-doubt with gratitude.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Coaching has completely changed my life and it’s been a very important part of me before it even became my business. My earliest memories of coaching are with my dad. He got me involved and invested in sports at a very early age. He was much more than a typical soccer dad, though. He went above and beyond to observe my skills and help me hone my natural abilities. I owe so much of how I think and operate at a higher level to his example of discipline and professionalism (thanks, dad!). Fast forward to 2019. Personally and professionally, this was the toughest year of my life to date. It wasn’t until I sought coaching for myself that I started to see the light again. Through my own journey with receiving coaching, I was able to uncover what it was that really ignited passion and purpose in my life. I took a leap of faith in signing up for life coaching training, unsure of what would come of it. Today, I’m proud to share that I am a certified/trauma-informed coach, operating my practice and doing what I promised the 2019 version of myself I would do. Of course, starting and running any business comes with its own challenges. My experience was no exception. There have been overwhelming seasons, but staying focused on my goals and my “why” has kept me on a very promising path. I’ve learned a lot along the way and continue to absorb every lesson that presents itself. The things that keep me grounded and focused are expressing gratitude, remembering that who I want to become is superior to what I want to become and the fact that I owe it to myself to love and care for myself. I am very excited for what’s to come for my business. At Discovering Dawn Coaching, we do things differently in that we normalize the mess that life can be while creating a space to grow and advance from lifestyles and thought patterns that no longer serve us. We’ve created a safe space for even those who have deep rooted pain in cultural and generational trauma to start again or start anew. We believe in getting real and raw in order to advance to living a more authentic life. Along with 1 on 1 coaching sessions, we offer group coaching and a hybrid therapy/coaching group. Shared experience sits at the core of connection and community, which we all need to successfully survive. I have big dreams for DDC and am just getting started.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh, how I love being situated in sunny South Florida! Every city has something great to offer and I’ve happily made the entire east coast of the tri-county area my playground. My favorite breakfast spots are Modern Rose in Deerfield Beach, The Little Coffee Shoppe (locations in Coral Springs and Fort Lauderdale), The Alchemist in Wilton Manors and Kixi Café in Boca Raton. My favorite beach spots would be South Inlet Park in Boca Raton, Deerfield Beachfront Park, Surfside in Miami and Matheson Hammock Park Beach in Key Biscayne. Lunch is best served at RH in WPB, Delray Beach Marketplace, Louie Bossi or Shooters or Phat Boy in Fort Lauderdale, Grailz or Esotico in Miami. I’ll either be at Pizza Time or Bluefin Sushi in Parkland, Batch in Flagler, 1 800 Lucky in Wynwood or Casa Felix on the Miami River for. My current favorite rooftop bar is Rosa Sky in Brickell. For a night out, you might catch me at either Wharf, in Brickell, Wynwood or a local brewery. I really enjoy visiting local, small business/makers markets. I try my best to shop local as there are so many wonderful businesses down here. There is so much to see, do, eat and drink that it’s difficult to pick favorites!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
SHOUTOUT to my support system: my family, my closest friends, my colleagues, my industry soulmates AND my pup. I wouldn’t have been able to come this far in my journey without them. I look forward to accomplishing more with you all alongside. I am incredibly grateful and blessed to have such loving souls in my corner and cheering me on through every season my business and life faces. Thank you x 100.
