We had the good fortune of connecting with Riley Kinworthy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Riley, what do you attribute your success to?
Taking massive action.
I use to spend time ruminating on things, perfecting my output, and wanting everything to be “just right.” Inevitably, I would finally launch and learn that I needed to change things anyways. I stopped being precious about my work and started to just take massive action.
The only way you become a good baseball hitter is to swing at thousands and thousands of balls. So I applied the same principles to my business, I 10x’ed my output and saw the results roll in. Especially in a content-saturated world of distracted people, your one perfectly-said message will fall on deaf ears. Your messy message for the 12th time, just might get someone’s attention. So ask yourself “What would this look like if I took an unreasonable amount of action around this one thing?” Then go do it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Throughout my career I’ve learned the power of betting on myself. Launching a company or rising through the ranks of someone else’s takes a lot of guts. When you’re young or the only female in a room full of males, it can be easy to stay quiet and just do what’s on your plate. However, if in those moments when you have a good idea but you’re too nervous to raise your hand, be willing to stop and straight up ask yourself “Do I believe in myself? Do I think this is a smart idea? Would this bring value? Can I make an impact?” If those answers are yes, then it’s just a matter of bravery.
At some point I realized that as both an entrepreneur OR an employee- You’re an investment. Whether thats the company investing money, time, and energy into hiring you, or the customers that are investing money to purchase from you. You are a start-up in and of yourself and you’re constantly asking for investment from others. In which case, how can I return an incredible amount of value and profit to those that invested in me? How can I be the person/idea/company people are yearning to invest in?
But just like any start up, it takes bravery to launch through fear, guts to go for it, and a willingness to bet the bank on yourself in order to win. So start being the one that you bet on. Invest time and money on your growth because you know there will be a return. Invest energy into your ideas because you bet that you can be successful. Be your own start-up and play to win.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Sushi | Bar’s Omakase experience at Esme’ Hotel. Every piece of sushi is a masterpiece of flavor and the Esme’ hotel is a darling spot.
I’m also a fan of Dante’s HiFi Lounge for a more relaxed evening in leather chairs listening to vinyl.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to shoutout Shannon Lutz of The Social Bungalow. There are a lot of Business Coach Content Creators out there rinse and repeating the same high level fluffy business content. Not Shannon.
