We had the good fortune of connecting with Christophe Delavault and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christophe, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
when I was young I drew. I was an excellent copyist, I could reproduce any painting in drawing. But when it came to creating without a model I want unable to produce anything personal. This is when I started meeting artists and trying to understand their creative process. Since then I have constantly interspersed with artists and exhibited them all over the world. My second chance is that my maternal grandfather was the Burgundian neighbor of the famous painter Balthus. It fueled a lot of our conversations. Younger I ever skated in his studio without knowing that he had become a world star of the arts. My last meeting with Balthus in Venice during his last retrospective was overwhelming and decisive for me. I will become a player in the art market

What should our readers know about your business?
What makes me proud is when I discovered artists that today are displayed on the walls of museums or major collections. The reason for success is experience. It’s a matter of time and deep knowledge of the arts. More personally it is to have a look, an eye, but it is time that builds us.
I am curious and I travel a lot. I always answer to an invitation ! One might think of a weakness but one always gets a profit from it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a French I suggest people to look while walking. There are many buildings at Miami Beach with remarkable architectural details. The city has today important collections of contemporary art. Fruits of passionate collectors that are Rubell, Margulies or de la Cruz.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It is true that it is important to thank or be grateful. I would say that in my life these are generally meetings. My professional life is made up of decisive meetings. You have to be curious about everything and available. If I have to thank someone it is the auctioneer Pierre Cornette de Saint Cyr for his advice and benevolence.
