We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Seligman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
One of the biggest lessons my business has taught me is that I learn something new at every event and working with every client.  I am confident and have several years of experience, but there is always something we can learn. The event industry is constantly evolving due to trends, the generation of the client. I remain open minded and embrace the constant change, I feel it enables me to be a better planner and business owner.

What should our readers know about your business?
Island Life Events is a luxury event planning company specializing in destination weddings. ILE began a as small planning company in the Upper Florida Keys then Hurricane Irma hit and it was decision time to expand ILE into different areas of South Florida, as we were faced with many obstacles only working in the Keys. Immediately after the storm, I was not going to let it stop my clients from having their weddings, so I jumped into action and started moving weddings to Miami and the only hotel open in the Upper Keys, Playa Largo. This opened my eyes and the door for expansion of my business. I knew I had to grow and as challenging as this was, it was the best thing that could have happened to me and Island Life Events. Now we have events from the Florida Keys to Palm Beach and have even traveled out of state as well. We have established wonderful working relationships with beautiful venues and some of the most sought after vendors in the industry. We have stepped into the luxury brand I always dreamt Island Life Events was meant to be!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would start their trip by having them stay at The Colony Palm Beach, the most beautiful, chic, fun hotel. Then bring them to Delray Beach, where I live. Atlantic Ave. where there are so many great restaurants, one off the beaten path is Dadas, my personal favorite! Then after a few days in Palm Beach we are off to my other favorite place, the Florida Keys. Some of our favorite resorts are Playa Largo Resort & Spa, Cheeca Lodge & Spa, Bakers Cay and Postcard Inn and their sister hotels.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I had two people in my life that inspired me, mentored me, challenged me and I am forever grateful to both of them, Cathy Knowles and Bobby Stoky. I would not be where I am today without them.
