We had the good fortune of connecting with Krista Locklin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Krista, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Hello, thank you so much for having me! Sure, well to start, I grew up in a small town in Northeastern Pennsylvania. When I moved to Fort Lauderdale for college it took a bit of adjusting because where I grew up there was a lot more farmland and a lot less things to do! Like the beach… I have never had such a short drive to the beach in my life!

Growing up I was always creative, and my mom always encouraged me to express and embrace my creativity. I was also hard working. Once I got an idea in my head that I wanted to do, I would do it. The summer before my junior year of high school, my mom let me get my first summer job. I continued working different summer jobs through college. Most of my jobs dealt directly with customers which allowed me to gain valuable customer service experience. I worked in many different work environments in high school and college, like ice cream stands (my favorite summer job), restaurants, a gas station, an elementary school, my college as a student worker, and more! These jobs allowed me to deal with a lot of different types of people of all ages. I believe that this helps me even today with my business as I gain more experience working with others in a creative space and apply my past work experience to my photography business.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am most proud about how many graduates I have been able to photograph since my first graduation session in 2017. My business and photography have grown so much since the start of my career. It was not easy along the way. I had to put in a lot of work, research, and practice to get where I am today. I just kept shooting and working to improve at every session that I booked. I overcame a lot of my challenges by researching any question that I had for my sessions and photoshoots so that I could feel confident and knew what to do in different situations and lighting. I tried to learn as much as I could about photography and starting a photography business as well. You will make a lot of mistakes and learn a lot of lessons along the way, but it is a part of the process. Something that I would like the world to know about my brand and story is that I am a hardworking creative with a goal to make you feel comfortable and confident during your photography session!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area, some fun things we would most likely end up doing is coffee and brunch in Fort Lauderdale on Las Olas, some of my favorites include Louie Bossis Ristorante for Brunch and Ann’s Florist and Coffee Bar for coffee. In Fort Lauderdale we could also check out the Jungle Queen for an awesome tour of Fort Lauderdale’s intracoastal. Of course, we need a beach day too, and if they are here for the week, that means we could check out multiple beaches. The beaches I would probably take them would be Fort Lauderdale Beach, Lauderdale-by-the-sea, and also, I would drive down to South Pointe Beach Park if we had time for some beautiful views of the Miami skyline and beautiful blue water.

While we’re visiting Lauderdale-by-the-sea we would find any of the restaurants near the pier for a bite and then get dessert at Kilwins! South Pointe Beach Park is the southernmost point of south beach so once we get hungry, we could find a restaurant around the area and grab some food. Fort Lauderdale beach also has a great assortment of restaurants and oversized alcoholic beverages if that is what you’re looking for!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to both my Mom and Dad. They are some of the most supportive people in my life. They always encourage me to do anything that I set my heart on. I am incredibly lucky to have even one person in my life that encourages me to express my creativity and understands how important that is! Thank you Mom and thank you Dad!
