We had the good fortune of connecting with Elizabeth Charron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Elizabeth, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
My staff is absolutely the secret to my success! I was so blessed to find women who were as passionate and excited about the birth house as I was. When our clients come in they absolutely feel the love. At such an important turning point in their lives they feel relieved to be experiencing it amongst an extended family.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Palms Birth House is a small midwifery practice located in Delray Beach that specializes in out-of-hospital births. Our clients can choose to deliver their baby in the comfort of their home or in our cozy birth center. We take very few clients to ensure that each mother gets the care and attention she deserves. The first two years were extremely challenging. Navigating the legal ramifications of owning a birth center were overwhelming to say the least. Financially supporting a fledgling business was also a feat I was naively unaware of. Thanks to a handful of passionate women we made or mark in the community and have been highly rated ever since. I think what I’ve learned the most from my experience is just how powerful a good support system is in any endeavor. I started this business alone but I built it with the patience of my family and the help of some very dear friends.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have two small children so truthfully I don’t get out much but the ladies at the birth center and I have always loved Deck 84 on Atlantic Ave for birthday celebrations as it’s located directly on the intracoastal. Before my littlest was born we spent many a Friday night with the Sunflower Creative Arts crew on the beach at the end of Atlantic Avenue. It’s a great spot as there are several places you can order food from and bring to the beach to have a picnic. Another spot that my family really loves to eat at is Ramen Lab which is also in Delray Beach.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
