We had the good fortune of connecting with Jacquline Maura and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jacquline, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
There is a famous saying where I am from, I am sure many Hispanics have heard this before, “para atras ni para tomar impulse”, it means “don’t take a step back not even for momentum”

If you have a dream that is big enough, make it into a reality and don’t anything or anyone hold you from it.

My first thought to starting this business was “I am so nervous yet so ready!” There is no denying that starting a business is a commitment and requires a lot of dedication and sacrifice. However, if you are passionate about something, nothing can stand in the way, not even fear. I know that possessing a passion for your business allows your drive, ambition, and love for what you do and who you serve be bond for success. Although, there are many bumps and turbulence down the path of business, enjoy the journey and focus on the destination. Your passion will allow you to be successful.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Every business has a story, ours starts in 1987. We fled an island that we called home. We fled fearful of the obstacle we were about to confront but knew it would be far better than the life we left behind. We were able to escape but others weren’t so lucky. Upon my arrival to the United States, my very first job was at an embroidery shop. While, I worked in this embroidery shop, I was able to gain a lot of experience in the embroidery world. I saw the way a business runs, the strengths and weakness. I have been in this industry for over 20 years. I felt that through my expertise in the subject, I was ready to start my very own business.

At the time, I remember one of my very first thoughts to starting this business was “I am so nervous!” It can be very challenging. However, if your heart holds a passion for something, don’t let anything stand in the way. Like I mentioned earlier, possessing a passion for your business allows your drive, ambition, and love for what you do and who you serve to be bound for success. I was thankful to have the guidance of my husband, Mario who also has a small business in Miami, The Painting Corp. Of South Florida. He provided a lot of reassurance through the beginning stages, process and still does!

I am a firm believer that customer service is truly what sets our business apart. I want my customers to feel like family when they walk in or approach us. We want them to feel comfortable enough to share their ideas and trust us enough to make them a reality. As a mom and a businesswoman, I wanted my business to give ease to parents, and families. I also wanted to ensure quality of the embroidery while facilitating faster service at an affordable rate.

I always dreamt of one day being able to run my every own company. Here we are and I get to do it with my family. They are the reason why I left my native country to begin with. I wanted to offer them far more than my island could give me, more than I could’ve ever had. While I miss my roots, I know that my home has no roof. My home is wherever they are.

I’ve learned through these experiences that the biggest risk is not taking any risk. Taking risks requires me to get out of my comfort zone, which opens up opportunities for more personal and professional growth. I am so grateful for this journey and challenges that come with it. It has honestly shaped me and helped me grow as not only an individual but as a businesswoman.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would highly recommend, Versailles Restaurant Cuban Cuisine for breakfast. You have to ask for a cortadito or cafe-ito expresso. They serve a wide-range of pastelitos, and delicious Cuban breakfast. We highly recommend a cheese pastelito or their guava and cheese tequenos! They are delicious!

For lunch, I would make a stop for lunch at La Carreta and enjoy a Pan con Biste or Masitas de Puerco with a side of tamales.

For dessert, I would definitely run to Miami Coppelia Ice Cream. This place has a bit of nostalgia for me, as it was the very first place my husband and I went on a date when we first got here. Our favorite is the “Tres Gracias”. They serve unique ice cream flavors like: Mint Chocolate Chip, Guayba, Coco Almendrado and so many more! This trio is absolutely perfect! They are also a family owned business and are quite popular with amazing customer service!

And finally to finish off the day, Ball and Chain bar has the perfect vibrant vibes located on Calle Ocho! Make sure to put on your dancing shoes! The food is delicious along with the drinks and the music is even better! They serve amazing Cuban Mojitos and deliver great Salsa tunes!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I always dreamt of one day being able to run my every own company. Here we are and I get to do it with the people I love most, my family. Our family has this saying, “juntos somos mas fuerte” which means together we are so much stronger. I am so grateful to have the relationship I do with my children, and their families. Without their love, support and contribution to our business, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do without them. They make the little bumps on the road easier and the success of our company so much more meaningful.
