We had the good fortune of connecting with Kimberly Miranda and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kimberly, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Miami, FL with a Dominican and Puerto Rican background. When I came to Miami from Puerto Rico, Spanish was my only language. Growing up, I watched my mother sacrifice a lot for me and my sister. As a single mother of two, she made sure we had food on our table, went to great private schools and had a roof over our heads. As I grow older, I realize how similar I am to her. My mother is the reason I am the strong, independent, wise woman that I am today.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Dance has always been a passion of mine. It was something I just always enjoyed doing. However, as much as I love being in front of the camera, there is something about being behind the scene creating and being able to give others opportunities that fufills me. I recently creative directed and choreographed my first music video for an artist by the name of King Cassius. It was one of my biggest personal accomplishments this year that I am so proud of. Over the years, I’ve orchestrated different choreographies and put together many projects. I started teaching different styles of dance to adults back in 2020 including Heels, Twerk and hiphop. I am so proud at how far I’ve come in my teaching journey and I can’t wait for everyone to see what I have in store for the future. I got to where I am today with a lot of hard work, training, and dedication. Just like everything in life, this wasn’t always easy. There was even a time in my life when I gave dancing a break all together. Unmotivated, rejected, and distraught, I started looking for the all reasons I fell in love with dance in the first place. I came to the realization that I had taken the “fun” out of dancing. Everything started feeling like a job or a competition. Getting out of that headspace was very difficult, but once my mindset changed, everything changed. One of my biggest lessons this year is doing everything with intention. If there is one thing I want everyone to learn from me, is that your mindset can dictate your future.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to give a shout out to Alain Marquez from Next Level Dance Company. I’ve been training with him for many years and he’s definitely an inspiration & big mentor in my life. I would also love to give a shout out to my best friend SONSA, a model, stylist and creative director here in Miami who has pushed me past my limits and supported me every step of the way. Also, My Mother and sister for being there through thick and thin, but MOST IMPORTANTLY, God, because without him I wouldn’t be where I am today.
