Meet GREGOIRE DEVIN | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with GREGOIRE DEVIN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi GREGOIRE, why did you pursue a creative career?
I have always been a creative person from a very young age with a lot of imagination. I’ve always dreamed of doing great things without really knowing which direction to take. I started working for different companies but I needed more to express myself. I quickly wanted to create my own activity to be able to create projects, meet people and discover the world. Working in a company was too frustrating for me and I needed more freedom. I started to create paintings and then sculptures that I quickly exhibited in China and then in the USA. I have been an artist for almost 15 years now and my life has changed very positively. Art gives me energy and a growing desire to accomplish great things.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The paintings and sculptures that I am creating at the moment are very colorful and full of words that intertwine to form a central message. I still use codes and hidden messages as I have always done since my beginnings. There is always a very clear message in each work and another that is subliminal. I play with the true and the false to question the viewer and I often use puns to criticize or question the idea that I develop in my work. I like to play with words and invite the viewer to get lost in this labyrinth. My new works have just been exhibited at Context Miami in December 2022 and at Art Palm Beach 2023 with Ai Bo Gallery. The exhibitions were very successful. I am now ready to show my new works to the whole world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a French artist and France is full of exceptional places. I am always amazed by the beauty of the south of France and especially the French Riviera. I really like traveling between Nice, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat and Beaulieu sur Mer. The sun is radiant there and the landscapes are of rare beauty. I am very attracted to southern light and we know that light is important for an artist. The south of France has always attracted artists for decades and I now understand why. The heat, the sun and the landscapes are all elements allowing you to feel good and to be in an environment conducive to creation and not to mention the gastronomy which is very rich there.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Many people have always supported me from the beginning like my family, my wife, my children, my friends and all the people who follow me and who love my art by sending me messages on social media. If I got there it’s also thanks to my desire to succeed and to show all the people who didn’t believe in me and who criticized me that they were wrong. Obstacles make me stronger and I have the deep desire to always do more. I want to leave my mark and show the world all my determination.
