Meet Aglaya Shadrina | Creative Piano Instructor and Art therapist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Aglaya Shadrina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aglaya, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
When it comes to teaching piano, there is a common belief that follows preplanned lessons and a one-size-fits-all approach. However, I hold a different perspective. I firmly believe in a creative and individualized approach that allows each student to explore and express their unique creative voice and essence.
Rather than adhering to rigid lesson plans, I tailor my teaching method to the needs and interests of each individual. By understanding their musical preferences, learning style, and personal goals, I create a customized learning experience that resonates with them on a deeper level.
I encourage my students to embrace their creativity and explore various musical genres and styles. This allows them to discover their own musical identity and express themselves authentically through their piano playing. Whether it’s composing original pieces, improvising, or arranging music, I provide them with the tools and guidance to unlock their creative potential.
My approach extends beyond technical proficiency and focuses on nurturing a lifelong love for music. I believe that when students feel connected to their own musical journey, they become more motivated and enthusiastic about practicing and progressing.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started playing the piano at the age of 5 and always knew I wanted to become a teacher. Since as long as I can remember, I’ve had thoughts about finding a more creative approach to my own musical learning. Deep down, I always knew I wanted to be a teacher and foster a love for music through creativity, imagination, and fun. As a business owner and instructor, I’m proud of who I am today.
I believe in providing an individualized and creative approach to each student, and it brings me great joy to see them explore their creativity with happiness. Once I made the decision to fully dedicate myself to music and creativity, there was no other option but to choose this career path. It feels natural, and music is the language I speak, feel, and communicate with.
I also love that I can use the powerful tool of creative art therapy to help my students and make a difference. Art therapy allows individuals to stay present, open their hearts, find peace, achieve emotional balance, and empower themselves through the creative process. I wish more people knew how beautiful and powerful this tool is and how much joy it brings to those who explore it.
It has been an incredible journey, and I am grateful and happy that I chose this path.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love my Equinox gym in Brickell. The classes are so much fun, and the instructors are simply the best. I am truly obsessed! It brings me immense joy and helps me take care of my mind, spirit, and body. I also have a passion for basketball and tennis. Although I live in Florida, my heart has always belonged to the Golden State Warriors as I previously lived in Northern California.
Now, let’s talk about food! This is exciting! I thoroughly enjoy all the new places that have recently opened up in Wynwood, Coral Gables, and Brickell. Kaia in Coral Gables is a fantastic Greek spot if you’re looking for a romantic and relaxing evening with amazing food. Another favorite of mine is Enrique Thomas. It’s challenging to find a more authentic Spanish restaurant in the US. Expect a wonderful time with great food, service, a classy ambiance, and even live music on the weekends. My third pick is La Jardiniere in Wynwood. Their brunches and dinners are simply next level! I believe it was my best brunch experience ever with outstanding food, a delightful ambiance, and awesome service.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have been influential in shaping who I am today. From a young age, they fostered my curiosity and creativity, consistently encouraging me to explore and embrace new ideas. They wholeheartedly supported my artistic pursuits and introduced me to the world of art, igniting a lasting interest and passion within me. Their unwavering support has greatly influenced my journey and continues to inspire my creative endeavors.
